Born and brought up in Mumbai, Vijay was passionate towards Music since his childhood. He took his early lessons in playing Flute from his father Shri Baburao Tambe, a known Flutist. Further, he took guidance from Late. Shri Ramakant Patil, disciple of Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia. Though Vijay has never had the opportunity to learn music from Pt.Hariji,he still strongly believes that Pt. Hariji's inspiration makes his Flute sing.
Shri Manohari Singhji, the veteran Saxophone and English Flute player has stood behind him as an encouraging force. Vijay started performing when he was just 15 years of age and within no time became a popular performer on stage. For the last 30 years he has kept the stage [Alive] with his exemplary Flute solos. Known for his expertise in Indian as well as English Flute, he is the most loved musician in the Lata Mangeshkar troupe and his playing style has been appreciated by Bharat Ratna Lataji herself. Vijay has worked with various Music Directors like Anand-Milind, Bhappi Lahiri, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Ravindra Jain, Nikhil-Vinay, Amar Haldipur, Prashant Thackeray, to name a few. As a Music arranger, experimenting with modern music styles, new sounds and rhythm patterns is Vijay's hobby. Has travelled abroad to places like U.S.A, Canada, U.K, Swiss, Gulf, Germany with various music troupes. Vijay has been working on Music Therapy for Meditation and Healing since the last decade. Vijay lives Music through every breath of his life.
Vijay Tambe has been awarded the prestigious Manohari Singh Award, 2009 at Ajmer.
