Born in November to a musical family, Samrat devoted himself
into music at an early age of 2. He started learning Hawaian Guitar from his
father and First Guru – Shri. Dhananjay
Chakraborty. He then joined Shrutinandan
(www.shrutinandan.org), an institute of
learning vocal run by Pt. Ajoy Chakrabarty,
to grasp the techniques of Hindustani Classical Music, for 8 long years. His interest in music, rather sangeet, went deeper
and he started to observe all kinds of instruments like Tabla, Harmonium,
Keyboard, Octapad, Handsonic, etc. And plays them in a very smooth mode.
He is proud to belong from a family of Musicians, a family whose all members and environment is devoted
to music. Mother, Smt. Ankita
Chakraborty, former dance professor of Bokaro Sangeet Kala Academy and
Chinmaya Vidyalaya, now is a Director, Choreographer and Dance Teacher in
Bokaro's best music training institute Trisaptika (http://www.trisaptika.com/). Father, Shri.
Dhananjay Chakraborty, is a prominent guitar professor at Bokaro Sangeet
Kala Academy and Trisaptika. His fore grandfather, late Shri. Nirmal Chakraborty was the singer of RajDarbar of Jharia.
Samrat has also grabbed many awards and prizes of which
the Centre for Cultural Resource and Training
(CCRT)'s scholarship for learning
Hindustani Vocal Music is a marking achievement. He is a GOLD MEDELIST from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh, in the field
of Hindustani Instrumental Music. Recently, he has bagged the Ministry of Culture Scholarship from Central Government of India. He
has given excellent performances in Ranchi,
Dhanbad, Kolkata, Giridih, Durgapur and lots more and of-course, his
motherland - Bokaro, which has seen his numerous performances.
Now Samrat is a trainee of a student of Pt. Debashish Bhattacharya - Sri
Rhitom Sarkar and Sri Prashant Thakur of Vishnupur-Seni
Gharana of Indian Slide Guitar (Or Mohan
Veena) as the subject.
Presently, he is graduating in computer applications from a reputed institution of
Durgapur, West Bengal.
