Family Background:
Nayan Yavagal comes from a distinguished lineage of musicians. His father, Pt. Ravindra Yavagal, is a renowned top-graded tabla artist at All India Radio. His maternal grandfather, Late Sri. Kalidas Bankar, established a music school named Saraswathi Sangeetha Vidhyalaya in Hubli, which contributed significantly to the regional music culture.
Early Musical Journey:
Nayan displayed an innate interest in music as early as three years old, playing various instruments like tabla, bansuri, and harmonium, along with singing. He started his formal Hindustani Classical Vocal training under the guidance of Pt. Raghupathi Hegde for about ten years. Currently, he is receiving advanced training from Pt. Parameshvara Hegde, a respected and senior vocalist in India.
Education:
- Completed B.Com from Sindhi College, Hebbal, Kempapura, Bengaluru.
- Earned a Master's degree (MA) in Hindustani Vocal from Karnataka State Gangubai Hangal University.
Achievements and Awards:
- CCRT Scholarship: Awarded by the Government of India, recognizing his potential in classical music.
- Ranga Prapancha National Award: Bestowed by Ranga Prapancha, a monthly magazine, for his exceptional contributions to classical music.
- Vocalist of the Year: Received from the Guru Kumara Trust for his excellence in vocal performances.
