Tilottama Suryavanshi was born into a musically inclined family, where her passion for music was nurtured from a young age. She began her formal training in vocal music at the age of eight. Recognizing her keen interest in instrumental music, her parents, Vishnu and Sunanda Suryavanshi, guided her towards the sitar. She initially received lessons from Ustad Munnavar Ali Khan, followed by further training under the renowned sitar maestro Pandit Rasik Hazare. To deepen her understanding and mastery of the sitar, she was later mentored by Ustad Siraj Khan of the Mewati Gharana. Currently, she continues to refine her skills under the tutelage of Pandit Ravi Gadgil, a distinguished sitarist.
Tilottama holds a Master’s degree in Music and Sanskrit from S.N.D.T Women’s University, Mumbai, where she is also UGC-NET qualified. Her academic journey led her to become an assistant professor at the same university, a role in which she continues to contribute significantly to the field of music education.
Tilottama has a distinguished record of participation and success in various intercollegiate and national-level music competitions, winning several prestigious awards. As a professional sitarist, she has performed at numerous events, showcasing her profound musical talents.
