Aniket Chakravarty

Sarod artist

Aniket Chakravarty
   Biography

Aniket Chakravarty is a gifted and nationally acclaimed sarod player from Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Deeply rooted in the rich traditions of Indian classical music, Aniket represents the Maihar-Senia Gharana, the legendary lineage that includes towering maestros like Ustad Allauddin Khan and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. His performances reflect not just technical virtuosity but a soulful connection with the essence of Indian musical heritage.

Born in Jhargram, West Bengal, into a culturally rich and musically inclined family, Aniket began his artistic journey at the tender age of six, learning vocal music under his mother’s guidance. However, his true musical voice emerged through the sarod, which he began learning at age eleven under Sri Alok Lahiri.

His major musical development came under the profound tutelage of Dr. Pandit Ranajit Sengupta, a globally renowned sarod maestro. Aniket continues to train rigorously under his guru, embodying the Guru-Shishya Parampara, a cornerstone of Indian classical tradition. He has also attended workshops and received guidance from luminaries such as Ustad Aashish Khan and Pt. Buddhadev Dasgupta, gaining invaluable insights into the depths of Hindustani music.

At just 13 years old, Aniket made his debut on Doordarshan, India's national television network, and hasn't looked back since.

Musical Style & Vision

Aniket is known for his seamless blend of sarod, sitar, and vocal techniques, marked by lyrical swara-binyas (melodic phrasing), intricate ekhara-taans, and masterful control over sur and laya. His music is both meditative and technically accomplished, appealing to purists and new listeners alike.

With each performance, Aniket not only entertains but also preserves and propagates India’s spiritual and cultural legacy, inspiring younger generations to connect with their roots through classical music.
