Datta
Born
in a traditional musical family of Bengal, much devoted in music from
childhood.
LATE
HARIDHAN DATTA was a well-known Sitar player in 40’s and
grandmother; LATE PROBHABOTI DEBI also was a well-known Esraj His grandfather player among the housewife in their residential locality.
Musical
inspiration is inherited by that way and grandmother PROBHABOTI
trained him vocal training at the age of 6 years.
His
father LATE DR.MANILAL DATTA was a recreational sitar player and was
a disciple of well-known sitar maestro
LATE
USTAD MUSTAQ ALI KHAN.
Abhijit was very much interested to learn the sitar and took the
primary lesson from his father LATE DR. MANILAL DATTA. In1982, after
the sad demise of his grandmother, his father sent him to take lesson
of sitar to the famous lady sitar player SURASREE
KALYANI ROY,
the disciple of great sitar
legend LATE
USTED VILYAT KHAN.
In
1988, Abhijit was approved by the A.I.R CALCUTTA as a regular
performer of YUBABABANI. KHAROJ - PANCHAM style of SENYA-GHARANA
attracted him to change the style of performance and he went to one
of the world’s leading sitar artists LATE
PT.
DEEPAK CHOUDHURY,
the disciple of world famous genius of sitar LATE
PANDIT.RAVISHANKAR.
Till
then Abhijit is to be familiar to the community of NORTH INDIAN
CLASSICAL MUSICAL society. His treatment upon the ragas is a unique
style that is the most prominent characteristics of SENYA-MAHIAR
GHARANA.
