Biography

Sayak Barua was born in a family with a profound lineage of musicians and artists. He is commited to sharing the Sarod, an Indian instrument belonging to a rich classical tradition that 'uplifts the soul and spirit'. Infusing eastern raga style with western traditions of blues and jazz, Sayak's passages spark with meditative drones and flickering improvisations. Sayak's Sarode playing has got soulful and meditative touch which gives peace of mind.

Career

Sayak Barua has performed in Kolkata, Bhopal, Durgapur, Alipurduar, Delhi and in many prestigious classical concerts like India International centre, etc. He participated as a member of the Indian contingent in South Asian University youth festival (SAUFEST) orgainised by University of Jammu.

He also participated in workshops conducted by Rajya Sangeet Academy of Ustad Aashis Khan in 2005 and 2010. He is an empaneled artist for ICCR(Indian council for cultural relations) and a graded artist of AIR.

Sayak Barua's Sarode playing has got soulful and meditative touch which gives peace of mind. He has performed in Kolkata, Bhopal, Durgapur, Alipurduar, Delhi and in many prestigious classical concerts like India International centre, etc.

Awards & Achievements

* Sayak received a National Scholarship for young artists from the Ministry of Culture; Government of India – 2005.

* Secured 1st position in the Classical Solo group (Instrumental) in the East Zone Youth festival 2005 – 2006 at North Eastern Hill University.

* Secured 1st position in the Instrumental Competition in the Maya Mitra Memorial Instrumental Music Competition – 2007.

* Recipient of ‘Junior Research Fellowship ‘from the ministry of culture,govt. of India on Sarod.
