Artist Introduction:
Anjana Murthy is an Indian classical singer-songwriter, composer, teacher and dancer who specialises in Hindustani classical music. She is currently based in Bangalore, Karnataka.
Born into a family of music aficionados, Anjana was introduced into Carnatic music at the early age of 5, she started receiving training for Bharatnatyam around that time and very soon after, she started demonstrating an excellent flair for Hindustani style of singing.
In the subsequent years, she trained under various gurus of the Kirana and Agra gharana- Pt Surendra-sa Nakod, Vidushi Smt. Shanta Potiji, Shri L N Vijayarange, Dr. Gopal Raichur and she is presently under the tutelage of Vidushi Smt. Poornima Bhatt Kulkarni and Pt. Ravi Kiran Manipal.
Through her compositions and unmatched musicianship, Anjana helps define the Hindustani music experience.
Anjana has participated at various cultural programs all over India and is also an accredited graded artist of the All India Radio (AIR) Bangalore.
Anjana renders Thumri, Hori, Jhula, Hindi Bhajan, Marathi abhaang, Kannada daasarapada, vachana and Kannada bhava-geet with equal ease and eloquence.
Anjana is an exponent of the Kirana gharana style of singing with nuances of Agra & Gwalior gharana.
Anjana is a Gold Medallist in her MA Vocal Music from at Dr. Gangubai Hangal State University for Performing Arts, Mysore.
She had earlier worked with HDFC Bank, Tesco and Azim Premji Foundation in various roles.
