Joydeep Ghosh

Modest and sober by nature, Joydeep is a worshipper of Nature. He has also a spiritual bent of mind. In his own modest manner, he is trying to establish a relationship between Music and Nature through the harmony of the Sarod. Like the great romantic poet, he looks upon Nature as something pulsating with life, which at the same time is a Divine Preacher. He wants to become one with the serene and tranquil atmosphere of Nature through the mellowing cadences of Music.Keeping in mind, he has made many innovations, of course without tainting the purity of Ragas and Raginis.

Joydeep has performed in several esteemed music conferences in Delhi, Bombay, Calcutta, Madras, Aurangabad, Puna, Nagpur, Varanasi, Allahabad, Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, etc. Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi, invited him to perform in their Music Festival at Madras and Jamshedpur.

In 1988, he was invited to participate in the Historical Sarod Festival in Delhi, organised by Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan Memorial Society. These programmes were highly appreciated by the press.

Joydeep was also invited for the chain concerts in Bhutan organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Govt. of India in 1988.

He has enchanted music audience of different countries including England, Germany, France, Holland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark etc. 

Joydeep is a Senior lecturer in Sarod at Indira Kala Sangeet University, Khairagarh, in the state of Madhya Pradesh. He is also a regular artiste in "A" Grade of All India Radio and Television.

Joydeep is the recipient of many awards since his childhood including the Govt. of India Talent Search Scholarship. 

In 1978, he was awarded the first Prize in the Instrumental Group of All India Radio Music Competetion at the age of only 15 years. In December 1979, he obtained the "Sangeet Kriya Visharad" Diploma from Saurav Academy Board, Calcutta and was awarded Gold Medal and Scholarship as the best candidate of the year in all groups. 

In 1980, he got the title of "Sangeet Praveen" (M.Mus.) from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad and stood first in first Class along with four Gold Medals. In 1984, Joydeep graduated from Rabindra Bharati University, Calcutta with honours in Instrumental Music. In the year 1991, he also got the title of "Surmani", from Sur Singar Samsad, Bombay. In April 1992, he has been awarded fellowship by the Govt. of India under the "Scheme for the award of fellowships to outstanding artistes in the Country".
