Aboli Sulakhe, a Sarod Artist, is a proud disciple of Pt. Haripad Ghosh, Mrs. Zarin Sharma, Pt. S. C. R. Bhatt and her father, Late Pt. Arvind Apte, himself a well-known exponent of the Kirana Gharana and a disciple Pt. Firoz Dastur. She is now receiving training from Sarod Wizard Pt. Buddhdev Dasgupta of Kolkata.
Her noteworthy achievements include a gold medal at M.A.(Music) from S.N.D.T university Mumbai, Gaanhira award & the prestigious Surmani award by Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai in 1992. Aboli is also a recipient of the Central Government Scholarship given for a period of two years to promising “young workers in different cultural fields". During this time Aboli has worked under the expert guidance of her Guru, Pt. S.C.R. Bhatt. She has recorded an educational programme title 'Classical music and Children' for NCERT, New Delhi.
In India, Aboli has enthralled audiences by her thrilling performances of Sarod in cities like Mumbai, Chandigarh, New Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Pune, Gwalior, Ajmer; Indore, Nasik, Amrawati, Latur; Solapur; Barsi, Wardha, etc.
Motivated by her father Pt. Arvind Apte, Aboli and her sister Mrs. Aparna Deodhar; a Sitar player, began giving Jugalbandi programmes from a very early age. Their duet performances have displayed a fine melodious balance and received great acclaim in India & abroad. Along with their father; they performed in USA in cities like Washington, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Albuquerque, Seattle, Los Angles, San Francisco, etc. In 1993 they performed in Hong Kong at Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia’s Vrindavan Academy.
In 1998 they telecast a duet performance in 'Alaap’ on Music Asia Channel.
She has worked with well—known music directors like Kalyanji Anandji, Datta Davjekar, Shreenivas Khale, Shreedhar Phadke etc.
She has written an article about 'women's contribution to music' (Vocal & Instrumental) in the popular Marathi magazine, Kusumanjali.
Aboli is a regular performer on All India Radio with B high grade as well as an artist for Cine Music Association, Mumbai. She regularly gives background music scores for Hindi and Marathi films, documentaries, Cassettes, CDs, Albums, TV serials including a few episodes of ‘Chanakya’.
