Aboli Sulakhe
   Biography
Aboli Sulakhe, a Sarod Artist, is a proud disciple of Pt. Haripad Ghosh, Mrs. Zarin Sharma, Pt. S. C. R. Bhatt and her father, Late Pt. Arvind Apte, himself a well-known exponent of the Kirana Gharana and a disciple Pt. Firoz Dastur. She is now receiving training from Sarod Wizard Pt. Buddhdev Dasgupta of Kolkata.

Her noteworthy achievements include a gold medal at M.A.(Music) from S.N.D.T university Mumbai, Gaanhira award & the prestigious Surmani award by Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai in 1992. Aboli is also a recipient of the Central Government Scholarship given for a period of two years to promising “young workers in different cultural fields". During this time Aboli has worked under the expert guidance of her Guru, Pt. S.C.R. Bhatt. She has recorded an educational programme title 'Classical music and Children' for NCERT, New Delhi. 

In India, Aboli has enthralled audiences by her thrilling performances of Sarod in cities like Mumbai, Chandigarh, New Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Pune, Gwalior, Ajmer; Indore, Nasik, Amrawati, Latur; Solapur; Barsi, Wardha, etc.

Motivated by her father Pt. Arvind Apte, Aboli and her sister Mrs. Aparna Deodhar; a Sitar player, began giving Jugalbandi programmes from a very early age. Their duet performances have displayed a fine melodious balance and received great acclaim in India & abroad. Along with their father; they performed in USA in cities like Washington, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Albuquerque, Seattle, Los Angles, San Francisco, etc. In 1993 they performed in Hong Kong at Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia’s Vrindavan Academy.
In 1998 they telecast a duet performance in 'Alaap’ on Music Asia Channel.

She has worked with well—known music directors like Kalyanji Anandji, Datta Davjekar, Shreenivas Khale, Shreedhar Phadke etc.

She has written an article about 'women's contribution to music' (Vocal & Instrumental) in the popular Marathi magazine, Kusumanjali.

Aboli is a regular performer on All India Radio with B high grade as well as an artist for Cine Music Association, Mumbai. She regularly gives background music scores for Hindi and Marathi films, documentaries, Cassettes, CDs, Albums, TV serials including a few episodes of ‘Chanakya’.

   Career
Aboli has participated in : • All India Womens Sangeet Sammelan organized by Geetika, New Delhi, • Sursagar, in Banglore • Mahila Sangeet Sammelan organized by Gaanwardhan, Pune. • Women‘s Sangeet Sammelan at Hongkong organized by Vrindavan Academy of Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia. She has entertained audiences in cities like Mumbai, Chandigarh, New Delhi, Kolkota, Pune, Gwalior, Ajmer, lndore, Nashik, Amrawati, Latur, Solapur, Barshi, Vardha etc. Motivated by her father and her sister Mrs. Aparna Deodhar, a Sitar artist, Aboli gave Jugalbandi programmes of‘Sarod and Sitar in various cities. They performed in USA in cities like Washington, Filadelphia, St. Louis, Seattle, Albuqurque, Los Angles, San Francisco etc. Aboli also gave a Lecture Demonstration on 'Sarod Ek Avishkar’ in Jan 2007 at Shri Shivaji Mahavidyalaya Barshi, Talegaon at Varsha Bhave’s Annual Children Camp and also at Rastra Sant Tukdoiji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur in Jan 2009 Aboli has played Sarod in background music scores for Hindi and Marathi Films, documentaries, Cassettes, CD’s, Albums, T.V. Serials. She has worked with well—known Music Directors like Kalyanji Anandji, Datta Davjekar, Shreenivas Khale, Shreedhar Phadake, Varsha Bhave, Kamlesh Bhadkamkar etc. She has performed Sarod in ‘Marathi Abhimaan Geet’ of Shri. Suresh Bhat Composed by Kaushal lnamdar, Mumbai. She has worked with Anand Modak, famous Music Director, for a Dance Balle on Kavi Kalidasa’s ‘Meghdoot’ composed by Zelam Paranjpe a Famous Odissi Dancer at Nehru Center, Worli, Mumbai in 2009. Aboli is also working as a co-ordinator for COP — Career Oriented Programme in Indian Classical Music of UGC from 2007 - 08 onwards in Shri Shivaji Mahavidyalaya, Barshi. She is also working as a co-ordinator for Nehru Studies Centre for Shri Shivaji Mahavidyalaya Barshi. Aboli has been a Judge for various classical, semi classical and instrumental music competitions like the Youth Festival organized by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathvvada University, Aurangabad from 28th to 29"‘ Dec. 2009 She has been a guide for the West Zone Solapur University Youth Festival Team for the Musical Events like Group Song, instrumental Music, Vocal Music, Light Vocal Music etc. 2007-08, 2008-09 Aboli was also a guide for the Solapur University NSS Utkarsh Team for Group Song and instrumental Music. Aboli has worked as a paper setter for Shivaji University Kolhapur. • Worked as a Senate Member y Presently, Aboli is the Head of the Music Department in Shri Shivaji Mahavidyalya, Barshi affiliated to Solapur University, Solapur. She is also the chairman of BOS (Music) and member of Academic Council of Solapur University. Aboli is a member of the Managing Committe of institutions like of Shri Datta, Gayan Samaj, Barshi and Sarvajanik Vachanalaya, Barshi. In addition to this, Aboli has been working as music composer. Her compositions include 1. 'Vatevarchya Kavita’ by Mrs. Rajlakshami Deshpande, Pune. 2) Svvagat Geet written by Mukundraj Kulkarni for Vibhagiy Sahitya Sammelan organized by Marathi Sahitya Parishad Shakha Barshi. 3) Svvagat Geet written by Mukundraj Kulkarni for Mayboii, Barshi. 4) "Ushir’ by Shrimati. Shakuntala Sane, Barshi. 5) Akshar Svvapne by Mukundrai Kulkarni, Barshi 6) Poems written by Vasant Bapat, Smt. Sumatibai Tilak, Prof. Vasantrao Papalkar, Principal V. N. Ingale, Datta Gosavi, Barshi, 7) Various Patriotic Songs, Folk Songs 8) ‘Ambarish Ho Jai Bhupala’ a program designed and composed by her on Bhagvvant, Gram daivat of Barshi. The poems are written by Shri. Raja Yavlikar, Barshi. Surmani Aboli has also given Music to plays of Jain Mahila Samaj.

Tesjaswinitaraka in the year 2010 Aboli has won first prizes in several music competitions like Swar Sadhana Samiti, India Cultural League, NlTlE, llT, Mumbai University etc. She is also a recipient of the Central Government Scholarship for two years to "Promising young workers in different cultural fields". Aboli has recorded an educational program titled "Classical Music and Children" for NCERT, New Delhi. Aboli's resume is included in Asia American Who's Who and Asia Pacific Who's Who.
