Devarghya Roy
Born on 16th September 1988 in Dhanbad (Jharkhand), Devarghya is a first generation musician from an artistically inclined family.
He started training under Gwalior gharana’s Pt Chandrakant Apte in Jamshedpur at the age of 11. In 2008, Devarghya moved into the tutelage of Ustad Rashid Khan in Kolkata. This earned him the opportunity of accompanying the Rampur Sahasvan gharana maestro as supporting vocalist in over 40 concerts across prestigious venues in eastern India.
Being a keen enthusiast of the grammatical and scientific aspect of vocal classical, Devarghya further learnt, from the Bishnupur gharana exponent Pt Santanu Bandopadhyay, the various aspects of “vocal science “ as well as the fine nuances of the rich tradition of Bishnupuri kheyal gayakee.
Still in the beginning of his career, Devarghya has performed in various concerts in Kolkata, Jaipur, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Ranchi, Cuttak, Varanasi, Titlagarh, Durgapur etc and impressed listeners with his soulful approach to khayal. He has been awarded "Grade B" by All India Radio.
