Born into a family of musicians, Arushi has been fortunate in having an in-depth exposure to music and dance through the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, an institute started by her grandfather Pt. Vinaya Chandra Maudgalya and headed currently by her father, Shri Madhup Mudgal. She started learning Odissi dance formally at the age of five from her aunt and Guru Smt. Madhavi Mudgal. In 2007, she completed her graduation in Odissi dance.
Arushi has performed extensively as a soloist at various prestigious festivals within India and abroad, including the Musee Guimet Festival in Paris, Showcase at Alvin Ailey: Joan Weill Dance Center in New York, USA, festivals in Greece and Remscheid, Dance India Asia Pacific Showcase in Singapore, Stirring Odissi International Festival in Malaysia, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award Festival in Delhi, Umang Festival at the National Centre for Performing Arts in Mumbai, and the Music Academy Dance Festival in Chennai, to name a few.
In 2008, Arushi was invited by the famous dancer-choreographer Pina Bausch of Wuppertal Tanz Theater to perform at the Internationales Tanz Festival in Dusseldorf, Germany. She also performed at Theatre de la Ville, Paris and various other cities of France, Belgium and Austria as part of a recital named ‘Famille Mudgal’, and the Fall for Dance Festival in New York & Los Angeles, USA. She was awarded the first Touring Fellowship by Milapfest, UK for 2010-11. She toured different cities of the UK in May 2011, giving highly appreciated performances and workshops.
A graded artiste, Arushi has performed for India’s National TV at Delhi and Ahmedabad, and is also empanelled with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. She has conducted dance workshops in France, USA, London, Manchester and Singapore, and is a regular performer for SPICMACAY, having given numerous lecture demonstrations in Delhi, various cities of Rajasthan, Dehradun and Mussourie.
Besides this, Arushi has also toured extensively as part of her guru’s dance troupe. Her most significant performances have been in Brazil, France (Theatre de la Ville), Germany (Berlin Festspiele) and Morocco (Fez Festival), where she had the honor of dancing with the legendary Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra and Madhavi Mudgal as part of a recital which illustrated the continuity of the Indian dance tradition through three generations. She has performed in South-East Asia, North America and England on ICCR tours, and has represented India in Mauritius as part of adelegation of the Govt. of India.
Arushi has co-authored a book on aesthetics of Odissi with the senior scholar and aesthetician Professor S.K. Saxena. A graded artiste of Doordarshan, she is empanelled with the I.C.C.R. She has conducted dance workshops in various cities of France, USA, United Kingdom and Singapore, and is a regular performer for SPICMACAY.
