Pravat Kumar Swain is an exuberant and vivacious young dancer who has carved a niche for himself in the field of Odissi Dance. He believe that creation and creativity is an eternal process and dance is one of the most powerful and aesthetic medium to express the joy of creation. Dance comes to Pravat’s body spontaneously. He moves on stage like a panorama of living sculptures, his scintillating grace and poetic expressions speak about his devotion towards his art and also manifests his determination to acquire the skill and perfection. He, not just dances but magically moves his feet to weave a graceful poem on space and time. Dance makes him feel sacred. Everything is transformed into eternal ecstasy and at one point; what remains is pure bliss of dance and Pravat’s never ending passion for it. As a prized pupil of Guru Gangadhar Pradhan and Guru Aruna Mohanty, he pursues his career as a soloist and also as a teacher.
Initiated into Gotipua Dance at the age of 7, Pravat proved himself as a child prodigy in Chandrasekhar Gotipua Kala Sansad, Dimirisena, Puri and subsequently joined Odissi Dance at the Orissa Dance Academy, Bhubaneswar under the direct supervision of Padmashree Late Guru Gangadhar Pradhan and under the watchful eyes of Guru Aruna Mohanty and Guru Manoranjan Pradhan. Since then, he has emerged as one of the formidable member of the Orissa Dance Academy repertory. He is currently being groomed under the guidance of Guru Aruna Mohanty to master the subtle art of both abhinya and pure dance in solo presentation.
Pravat aims at popularizing Odissi at a much higher level both in and outside India. He wants to spread the message that dance is not just an art, it includes spiritualism, freedom, joy and discipline.
