Amongst the middle generation of top professional Musicians emerges another noteworthy Harmonium and Organ Solo performer and accompanist - Pt Prakash Chitnis. Prakash has been able to maintain the traditional and sacred 'Guru-Shishya' parampara with Sangeet Tirth Pandit Vinayakrao Kale of Thane. Under the tutelage of the famous Harmonium and Organ player ' Pandit Govindrao Patwardhan'- Pandit Prakash acquired the finer nuances and skill of presenting the popular 'Gandharv style'. Pandit Prakash also had the privilege of learning from Harmonium Mastero- Pandit Vishwanath Pendharkar. A yearning for learning-Pandit Prakash went ahead to achieve the 'Sangeet Alankar' Degree (Post Graduation) in Harmonium from Akhil Bhartiya Gandharve Mahavidyala.
Pt. Prakash Chitnis's accompaniment to leading and renowned vocalists of Indian Classical Music,such as Pt Yashwantbua Joshi, Smt. Asha Khadilkar, Smt Devaki Pandit, Pandit Prabhakar Karekar,Pandit Sharad Jambhekar, Smt.Shobha Gurtu, Pandit Aiay Pohankar, Smt Kankana Banerjee, Pandit Basawaraj Raiguru, Listaci haft Ahmed Khan, Smt.Prabha Atre,Smt.Manik Derma, Singh Bandhu, Pandit Firoz Dastur and many others is a feather in his cap. His Harmonium solo recitals on All India Radio, Mumbai Doordarshan and other parts of Maharashtra and other states is commendable. Special mention about his performance abroad. Pandit Prakash has given solo performances & also accompaniment to Shri. Sanieev Jahagirdar (Sr.Disciple of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi) in Abu Dhabi, Dubai & Sharjah. Apart from providing organ accompaniment to Musical Dramas like Deomanus,Saubhadra, Punyaprabhav, etc.
Pandit Prakash has an award from Maharashtra State Cultural Department for his background music to Hindi Drama in Maharashtra State Hindi Drama Competition in his Musical kitty. 'Swara-Mancha' has been overwhelmed by his unique style of playing and have published his Harmonium solo cassette. He happens to be the first solo Harmonium player from Maharashtra to have performed in Kerala in Hindustani Style; which was widely appreciated by the listeners-especially the Connoisseurs of Carnatic music. Pandit Prakash has been nominated on the panel of Artistes of Indian Council For Cultural Relations - Ministry Of External Affairs, New Delhi. He has provided Harmonium accompaniment to various Audio Cassettees of Indian Classical Music. 'Swar' and 'Taal' are complimentary - Pandit Prakash is well versed with Taal and had learnt to play 'Tabla' skillfully.
