Dr. Shailesh Srivastava is multifaceted personality - a thinker, writer &
singer. For Shailesh, music is a way of life, a journey, a mission in which she
is exploring her inner self and the beauty around her. According to Dr. Shailesh,
life is a continuous celebration & music is the best way for expression.
Ranked as an A-grade artiste of the All India Radio and Doordarshan,
Shailesh was born on the 6th of April, 1959 in a distinguished family of Uttar
Pradesh. Critics and connoisseurs consider Shailesh as a versatile vocalist with
a wide range. She has been trained by Padma Bhushan Pandit Rajan and Sajan
Mishra of the Banaras Gharana in the guru-shishya tradition (Parampara). She
has done a doctorate in "Folk and Media" from S.N.D.T. University, Mumbai.
Dr. Shailesh has been singing in Sanskrit, Hindi, Urdu, Bhojpuri, Awadhi,
Punjabi, Sindhi, Haryanvi, Himachali, Dogri and Marathi. She had the privilege
to perform in the world Hindi conference at Mauritius in 1993, the Asian Music
Festival, Bali, Indonesia, in 1996, Shark Taranalori Festival Samarkand (Russia)
in 1997, the U.S.A. in 2003, Trinidad & Tabago, Guyana, and New Amsterdam in
2005. Dr. Shailesh is an empanelled artiste of the Indian Council of Cultural
Relations (ICCR). She has performed for the Sahitya Kala Parishad, New Delhi,
the Punjabi Academy, New Delhi, the Hindi Academy, New Delhi, the N.C.P.A.,
Mumbai, the World Trade Fair, New Delhi and at the Badal Raag Festival in
September 2007 at Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal.
Dr. Shailesh has represented India as Cultural Ambassador to Trinidad,
Tobago, Gayanaand New Amsterdam, and London through I.C.C.R. She had represented
India as cultural ambassador to Trinidad, Tobago, Suriname, Netherlands
(Holland) on the occasion of Indian arrival day 140th & 168th Anniversary from
25th May to 13th June 2013.
Dr. Shailesh is an expert committee member in the Ministry of Culture for
"Indigenous Ant" Western Railway and Central Railway cultural Quota selection
committee.
She has also been the playback singer for serials like Maila Anchal , Himalaya
Darshan, Gayab Aya, Lok Lok ki Baat, Ye Hui Na Baat, and various advertisements.
It is the dream of every singer to be associated with films. Dr. Shailesh has
lent her voice as a singer for films like "Banaras" with Himesh Reshmiya,
1918-A Love Story with Khayyam sahab, Hawai Dada with Shameer
Tandon. Sung for Bhojpuri films like "He Ganga Maiya Tohe Chunari
Chadhyee Be" "Mor Karega Ke Tukada" and "Saanch Bhayel Sapnava Hamar"
To preserved our folk traditions, Dr. Shailesh have conducted, from time to
time, workshops in various schools and colleges like New Ana School, Mumbai
Girgaon, St. Xavier's College, Mumbai and 75 all India met of Central School.
Dr. Shailesh have rare collections of 1,500 folklores from U.P.
Western Bihar and other States.
