Prasad Khaparde is a senior disciple of Ustad Rashid Khan of the Rampur Sahaswan Gharana, one of the top-most vocalists of India today. Gifted with a robust voice Prasad has been regaling the audience with his performances since last few years. Today he is considered as one of the most sought after vocalists in the world of Indian Classical Music. His success is proof that talent will eventually be recognized, no matter where you are from. This Hindustani classical singer, who hails from a remote village 'Ghatanji ' in the ' Yavatmal ' district of Maharashtra, did not have the privilege of learning from or watching well-known musicians.
The vocalist has made a name for himself in the Crowded Classical Music scene. He could achieve this because of his Guru’s blessings, Sheer Talent, Hard Work and due to his Bloodline also. Now he is such as strong vocalist that he is readily accepted by the world audience.
Prasad was born in 1973, in a family of music loving educationists. His father Purushottamji and mother Sindhutai Khaparde encouraged him to take up music. He began his musical journey with formal music classes at an early age. He gave his first public concert at the age of 7 years. Prasad left his home town on the age of sixteen to peruse advanced music.
Prasad Khaparde’s initial training in classical music was under the guidance of the eminent gurus of Gwaliar Gharana Shri. Bhalerao guruji , Lt. Pandit D. V Panke and Lt. Pandita Sumantai Choudhari. Later he became a scholar at ITC Sangeet Research Academy of Kolkata and since then has been under the tutelage of Ustad Rashid Khan.
Prasad's sonorous and mellifluous voice takes the audiences by storm wherever he sings. From his guru Ustad Rashid Khan, Prasad achieved an authenticity in many aspects of the Rampur Sahaswan Gharana. Now Prasad’s Gayaki has emerged as the perfect blending of various styles of his Gharana and today his name is recognized by connoisseurs as a talented and matured artiste of the current generation.
Prasad received Master’s Degree in Indian classical vocal music in 1997 from Amaravti University . He has worked in Kala Academy Goa, as a Guru and received many awards. Prasad has also sung for the Marathi movie ‘Thaang’ by renowned director Amol Palekar. Prasad has given performances in India and abroad. Some of his notable performances are at Sawai Gandharwa Sangeet Mahotsav Pune, Shree Baba Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan, Jalandhar.
Prasad is always blessed by his spritual Guru Great Saint of Vidarbha Shri Achyut Maharajji and great legends of Indian Classical Music like Bharatratna Lt. Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Pandita Kishoritai Amonkar, Lt. Pt. A Kanand, Pt. Vijay Kichlu, Pt. Jasraj, Pt. Ajay Chakroborty, Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar, Talyogi Pt. Suresh Talwalkar and many more.
