A prominent disciple of legendary Padmavibhushan Pandit Jasraj ji and an
able torch bearer of the Mewati Gharana of Hindustani Vocal music , Saptarshi
Chakraborty was born to a musical family in the hill town of Shillong and began his musical education in childhood
under the inspiration of his grandfather
Shri Radhikaranjan Chakraborty, who was a distinguished student at Visva-Bharati University Santiniketan
during the lifetime of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.
His grandmother Smt.Asha Chakraborty was a renowned singer
at All India Radio Shillong.
After receiving 15 years of music education from his father,
Acharya Sudip Chakraborty, Principal of Shillong Music College, Saptarshi had
the great fortune to become a disciple of the legendary Indian classical
musician, Padma Vibhushan Sangeet Maartand Pandit Jasraj Ji, from 2005 onwards.
Saptarshi holds Bachelor's and Master degrees in music from
Rabindra Bharati University , Kolkata and is an empanelled artiste of the
Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). He has earned praise from
audiences and connoisseurs through solo performances and performances with his
Guru Pandit Jasraj ji at various prestigious music conferences in the country.
Saptarshi is equally proficient in Khayal, Bhajan, Haveli
Sangeet, Sanskrit Stotras in the Mewati
Gharana tradition ,in addition to Rabindrasangeet.
Saptarshi has served as resource person at CCRT National
Festival and also as examiner at National Scholarship examinations held by the
Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India .
In 2020, Pandit Jasraj Ji himself blessed Saptarshi by
honoring him with the title "Acharya Varishtha" from the Pandit
Jasraj Institute of Music, New Jersey, USA, where he
is a senior faculty.

OF MUSIC, Kolkata
and the Director of VOICE OF THE SEEKER, a cultural
institute he has founded, he is dedicated to imparting Indian music education
to students following the path shown by his Gurus.
