Mr. Anilkumar Singh, based in Mumbai hails from an established North Indian family of Business. He is a Post graduate scholar in Commerce. He has been fascinated with dance and creative art since the age of 5 years. Though he cannot identify the source of inspiration, the body dynamics, the pace and the scope for boundary less creativity attracted him to the field of performing arts and dance in specific. This very thirst and passion for, introduced him to the oldest and the finest Indian classical dance form – Bharatnatyam at that tender age.
Mr. Anilkumar began his learning since the age of 6 at a reputed institution – Nrityanjali under the tutelage of Guru Late Shri Jatinderpal Singh Bansal & received Visharad in Bharatnatyam from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. The movements, the dimensions and geometry of dance caught the little boy’s attention and his focus towards the Nritta of dance reflected from his performances and choreography that he showcased at various events through various events, competitions and festivals across Mumbai.
At the teenage stage, Anil’s eye desired more and while learning Folk dances of India and Creative dances from the age of 10 years under his Mentor and Guru Dr. Tushar Guha helped him enhance his talent into connecting human emotions and dance through a natural flow of drama with dance movements. The talent grew with varied exposure of Dance dramas Anilkumar performed through Nrityanjali and other institutions for which he received huge accolades.
High influence of Indian traditions, culture and mythology through family, helped Anilkumar study and internalize characters from Mythology and Indian folklore. This study with practical inputs, stage craft and exposure helped him portray on stage, characters of Arjuna (Chitrangada/ A Dance Drama of Rabindra Nath Tagor) and Lord Rama (Geet Ramayana), Vaalmiki (Vaalmiki Pratibha/ Rabindra Nath Tagors Dance Drama.)
Anil’s popularity and momentum was obvious with his characterization of Lord Rama during the celebration of the Golden Jubilee year of Geet Ramayan organized by BJP Leader Shri Vinodji Tawde in the year 2008 at Sivaji park, Dadar, who is also today the Education and Culture Minister of Maharashtra. A crowd of 45000 spectators actually felt as if they have been blessed by Lord Rama.
To enhance his acting skills and to venture out deeper, Anil took formal one year training under Actor Anupam Kher. It is this time when he focused more into enhancing body language, working on facial contours and creating portfolios for him and his audience. It is also at this time that he was introduced to English plays and theatre. Past experience of dance, dance dramas and bandish of classical dance helped him in understanding the highlights and peculiarities of performances and audiences demand. Today, he builds his choreography and characters with this very understanding and distinction. He has also undergone basic training into North Indian dance form – Kathak along with basics of Classical Western dance forms – Cha Chaa, Foxtrot, Jive and Ballroom.
Performed in over 1000 stage shows across India and abroad, Anil today is also doing well in his family enterprise which he has been successful enough to expand and grow. His stability in work and with sound family background, today Anil is open to experimentation and challenges for the sake of art and its joy he gathers.
Awarded with many accolades and appreciation throughout his school, college and professional span, he enjoys exploring ideas of acting, dramatization and choreography with many stalwarts of his field for he believes that there is enough scope for improvement and learning. His need helped him associate with many such personalities like – Guru Sumitra Rajguru, Guru Sucheta Chapekar, Guru Moli Siddharth, Guru Rajee Narayan, Guru Rajashree Shirke and his Role Model & Mentor Guru Shri Dr. Tushar Guha (Nrityanjali)
