Biography

Punita is one of the very few performers who can trace the shadow falling between moments and ideas beautifully.

Punita Sharma belongs to that new breed of classical Indian dancers who imbibe modernity with tradition. Obtained master’s from the reputed Kathak Kendra, New Delhi, Praveen from prayg sangit samiti, Allahabad and was awarded gold medal. The gifted dancer has completely devoted herself to kathak as her life’s passion, for the past on decade. Punita is a disciple of Pt. Jai Kishan Maharaj of the Lucknow Gharana and Mridul Chandra Mishra of the Banaras Gharana .

Punita Sharma has performed at national and international forums based in china &USA etc. and also choreographed ballets on mythological and social issues. She, very recently, has had re-choreographed the Krishna leela , a natya ballet production. She, obtained junior fellowship & Scholarship from ministry of Culture Govt. of india & also got Research fellowship from sangeet natak Akademi New Delhi . A graded artist of kathak from Delhi Doordarshan.

Punita is the Gen. secretary Rag virag Education & culture society, Principle Centre Superintendent & Guru, Rag virag Repertory group under grant–in–aid –scheme Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India.
