   Biography
Parveen Gangani hails from a family of dancers belonging to the Jaipur Gharana. Initiated into this profession from an early age by his brother, Guru Shri Manish Kumar Gangani and later he went under the tutelage of Pandit Birju Maharaj.

He is among the leading Kathak Exponents of his generation. Having learnt both the Lucknow and Jaipur gharana styles, Parveen’s dance is a rare combination of both. As such his repertoire reflects a beautiful and harmonious blend of both these styles. He has received much critical acclaim for his spellbinding footwork and fast pirouettes. He has a commendable command over the abhinaya aspect of Kathak.

Besides being a dancer of repute, he has proved his worth in the field of choreography. He has choreographed a number of ensembles notably a fusion piece which he worked with flamenco dancers. He has been invited by many cultural institutions to choreograph productions. Recently he choreographed Yog Yatra Ballet based on Kathak & Yoga which was presented at Pathanjali Yog Peeth, Haridwar.

He is an impaneled artist with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations as an established Kathak solo performer. Parveen has received several awards, among them Shrinagar Mani award given by the Sur Singar Samsad Bomaby and Gopal Parohit Award by Sabrang, Jaipur.

Parveen Gangani has not only made a name for himself as a soloist of exceptional caliber and choreographer, but has also made a significant mark as a tabla and pakhawaj as well as naal player.


For the past three years from 2007 to April 2010 Parveen has taught at the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural centre in Moscow, Russia, where he was sent by ICCR. He gave many solo appearances on the stage, and also composed several innovative items for the ballets made on Indian mythological storei in Moscow. In this period he trained many disciples who are following his style and are now performing at various venues in Moscow and other cities of Russia.

At present he is teaching dance in his own institution called “Kathak Disha Academy of Dance & Music

Kathak Disha School of Dance and Music is an institution which is working hard in the sphere of Kathak Dance & Music. The name of the institution “Kathak Disha” reflects its main purpose in which “Kathak” denotes this art form and “Disha” means “direction” .

Kathak Disha was founded by Guru Shri Parveen Gangani in 1997. Dance & Music classes are run by this school at many institutions in and around Delhi for different age groups. About two hundred students appear for the yearly examination of different classes, conducted by the academy for Prayag Sangit Samiti, Allahabad.

   Career
Parveen has performed in prestigious festivals in India and abroad such as Chakradhar Samaroh, Sharad Chandrika Festival, Swami Haridas Sangeet Sammellan, Jaipur Kathak Festival and Nritya Sangam, festival by Delhi Sangeet Natak Academy in Cochin, Kathak Mahotsawa by Kathak Kendra, New Delhi, 2012.

He has danced all over the world to much critical acclaim and has many foreign tours to his credit. He has performed in the USA, Great Britain, Japan, Italy, Spain, South Africa, Mexico, Indonesia, Russia and many more.

Every year Kathak Disha organises festivals of dance and music to give a platform to students of the academy, where they have an opportunity to show their talents to the audience and prove themselves. Kathak Disha also organises festivals for well-known artists from different parts of India and invites them to perform and show their art in the field of dance and music.
