Amy Kumar started her journey in Kuchipudi in 1999 under the guidance of Sri. S. K Raghavachari until 2001 and later on with ‘Natya Shree’ Smt. P.B. Krishna Bharati who was trained under exponents like Sri. Vedantam Prahalada Sharma and Padmashree Smt. Dr. Shobha Naidu until 2005 at Pallavi Academy of Fine Arts, Habsiguda – Hyderabad. During this period she completed her Ranga Pravesham in 2004 at Ravindra Bharathi which was well appreciated by her guru, renowned dancers, media and the press. She started training under the guidance of Dr. Anupama Kylash in 2005 who has been not just a guru but a friend, an idol and a true inspiration to her. She improved on her "Abhinaya" and "Choreography" skills under Dr. Anupama's guidance and started learning the art of "Nattuvangam" too. She has also trained in Veena (2001 - 2006) from Guru Vidhushi Smt. Padma Rangaswamy and for a short duration under the able guidance of talented guru Phani Naryanan (Former Carnatic Vocal and Veena Instructor at Prerana Pratibha) She has always shown a keen sense of interest towards music and learnt Keyboard too from Gurus Shri Prabhakar and Shri Dinakar for 5 years. She has completed certificate exams for the same and has won several prizes in All India Dance and Music competitions
She has taken part in a number of Dance Ballets and group performances. Also given a lot of solo performances in an around the country. Currently, she is training students in Kuchipudi in an organization started by her with the tremendous support and encouragement from her parents Dr.Anuradha and Ch. Rajendra Kumar in 2006 – Prerana Pratibha (an institute focusing on promoting young talent in the field of music and dance) and hopes to inspire youngsters to learn Indian Dance forms. She is a Doordarshan graded Artiste and a well known face in the field of classical dance in the twin cities. She has been asked to judge many dance competitions in the twin cities and also choreograph dance pieces (Classical and Contemporary)
Currently, she is interested in learning new dance forms and focusing on innovative choreography.
She has completed her Masters in Biomedical Genetics from Vellore Institute of Technology – Vellore in 2012 and is a Gold Medalist. She is currently working as a Research Associate at Dr. Reddys Laboratories, Hyderabad.
