Nirmalya Roy

Nirmalya is an inspirational vocalist whose passion in music was recognized by his mother at early age. It was she who had inspired him to cultivate his talent in music. He had begun training in classical music with Prof. Sunirmal Bhattacharya from Bishwa Bharati University. He was also trained in Khayal by the late Govinda Prasad Debnath, a disciple of Pandit Chinmoy Lahiri. Later Nirmalya came under the guidance of Pandit Amiya Ranjan Banerjee, a renowned vocalist of Vishnupur Gharana.

Nirmalya, a Sangeet Visharad had consistently achieved top positions in various music competitions including in Khayal at Rajya Sangeet Academy, All India Music Competition - Gauwahati, Music India Competition of Ghazals and Golden Talent Contest sponsored by HMV. He participated in Rajgir festival in 1997. In the year of 2000 for his performance, he was awarded the National Scholarship from India Government.

Nirmalya became a Scholar at the prestigious Sangeet Research Academy of Kolkata under the guidance of his guru Pandit Arun Bhaduri. Nirmalya's performances continue to be aired regularly on All India Radio as well as various television networks (Zee-TV, Tara-TV, E-TV, DD-7 Calcutta Doordarshan, etc). He has also done many jingles for various TV channels. He has mastered equal expertise in light, classical, devotional, Hindi and Bengali film songs, ghazals, modern songs, etc. Nirmalya's first audio cassette "Nijere Harai" was nominated for Ananda Bazar Patrika's Bengali music award in Ananda Purashkar. Four Cassettes and CDs of Bengali Modern Songs have also been released from Atlantis Music - BMG Crescendo & Venus Audio. Nirmalya also has released CDs and Cassettes of Bhajans, Modern Bengali songs and Nazrul Geeti. Nirmalya has been regularly participating in vocal recitals and conducting music workshops extensively throughout India, United Sates and Canada since quite a few years now.

He also performs regularly with well known Indian Fusion Bands - Rhythm Scape (Bikram Ghosh) and Taal Tantra (Tanmoy Bose).

Nirmalya is currently associated with Zee-TV in various capacities, the most recent being the title music composer and singer of the Bengali version of the very popular program Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. He is also the lead singer of the Music Band "Taal Tantra".

Nirmalya performs in live shows regularly throughout India and overseas. He regularly performed in All India Radio (AIR), Doordarshan and various other TV channels such as Tara TV, E-TV, Zee TV Bangla, [E-TV Amar Gaan twice], Akash Bangla TV, Upasana [E-TV] etc.

He also performs regularly with well known Indian Fusion Bands - Rhythm Scape ( Bikram Ghosh ) and Taal Tantra ( Tanmoy Bose ).

Among overseas, he has performed in USA in cities such as New York, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., Virginia, Nashville, Memphis India Fest, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, Champaign, Houston, Dallas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and others. He also performed in Canada in places such as Toronto, Montreal, Alberta Banga Sammelan. He performed in various cities in Bangladesh.

September 2009 - Performed in Hollywood, C A with Pandit Ravi Shankar and co-performed at the embassy of India chancery lawn-under the auspices of H.E. Anil Wadhwa[The ambassador of India to the sultanate of Oman (Muscat)]. Subrata Bhattacharya's- Naad band-July, 2010 - Performed in Banga Sammelan, 2010, Atlantic City, NJ Celebration of 150 years of "JANA GANA MANA" with Ustad Rashid Khan and Pt. Ajoy Chakravarty directed by Rituparna Ghosh, in presence of Chief Minister Srimati Mamta Banerjee and Governor.

*Nirmalya has composed and sung playback for various Television shows and Feature Films, some of which include:-

Zee TV Bangla: Composed ZEE Bangla SaReGaMaPa title and theme song, [Sat Sure Ram Dhanu & Dheu Aase Dheu Fire Jae] and recently SaReGaMaPa title song "Tumi Na Ami".

He composed music for Zee Bangla Gourav award title.

Hindi Feature Film: Khushboo (worked as a Singer and assistant music director).
