Dr. Kalamandalam Sheeba Krishnakumar stands as a prominent figure in the realm of Indian classical dance, celebrated for her versatility as an artist, performer, choreographer, teacher, and accomplished author. Her journey into the captivating world of dance commenced at a tender age when she was initiated into the artistry at Kerala Kalamandalam. With steadfast dedication to her craft, she progressed from her formative years in the 8th standard to attaining a Graduation in Performing Arts. Driven by passion, she pursued an M.A. in English from a private institution and later earned a Ph.D. in Mohiniyattam from Kerala Kalamandalam, specializing in this classical dance form.
Revival of Ashtapadiyattam
A crowning achievement in Dr. Sheeba's journey is the revival of Ashtapadiyattam, a traditional dance form that once graced Kerala's stages in the 1950s. Collaborating with eminent figures such as Karimbuzha Ramakrishnan and Padmasree Chemencherry Kunjiraman Nair, Dr. Sheeba played a pivotal role in resurrecting this ancient art form. Despite media oversight, her efforts bore fruit, with over 100 performances across India culminating in the prestigious Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award in 2022.
Present Endeavors
Dr. Sheeba Krishnakumar presently serves as the head of the Sargalaya School of Dance in Thiruvangad, Thalassey. Her influence extends beyond Mohiniyattam, as she imparts her knowledge and expertise in various classical art forms. She serves as a guru in Chenda Melam, Kuchupudi, Kathakali, and Veena, nurturing the next generation of artists and preserving the rich cultural heritage of India.

Dr. Sheeba Krishnakumar is also a prolific author, with notable works including "Nrithapaadavali," a testament to her profound understanding and passion for dance. Additionally, she has authored "Essence of Bharathanatyam," offering an insightful exploration of Bharatanatyam, one of the oldest classical dance forms of India, presented in English for a global audience.
