Koyel Bhattacharya

Koyel Bhattacharya, the vocalist from the Rampur Sahaswan Gharana, is an artist in the field of Hindustani Vocal Classical Music. Blessed with an exceptionally sweet voice, her vocation in life was clear right from the age of three. Born in 1987, Koyel started learning Hindustani Classical Music, from the tender age of four. She has been groomed by her Mother, Smt.Kanta Bhattacharya, Partho Protim Bhor, and Pandit Manas Chakraborty. She has also been groomed by Shubhashis Mukherjee. Now She takes vocal training from her guru Ustad Rashid Khan from last 9 years. 

Musical Carrier: 1994-1998 2005-2007 2007-2011 2012-2015 Koyel ,rendered his first stage performance in Howrah GOLMOHAR HALL, at the age of 8. At the same age she performed Kheyal in All India “Radio. She received “Sadanand Smrity Puraskar” from Howrah District Cultural Compitition in 1994. She also represented her school in HOWRAH DISTRICT INTER SCHOOL COMPITITION in 1998. She attended Classical Music Workshop in 2005, from PARAMPARIK- the tradition. In the early stage of her career, she received 1st prize from GITABITAN PRAKTANI and performed kheyal at BIRLA ACADEMY, Kolkata, in 2006.She has performed kheyal as a vocal supporter with her guru at RABINDRA BHABAN, Bally. She got 1st prize from “Jagacha Netaji Janmotsav Committee” in 2007. In the same year she got the “National Scholarship from the Government of India, Ministry of Culture Dept”. at the age of 18. After that TENANTS WELLFARE ORGANISATION Howrah, gave her an honour and she performed at the concert. She acquired a bachelor’s Degree and post-graduation Degree in Hindustani Vocal Classical Music from Ranbindra Bharati University and ranked 1st class. She performed in classical music concert at UTTAM MANCH, Kolkata. She completed her diploma course and got highest score from Sarbabharatiya Sangeet O Sanskrit Parisad. She performed bhajan with her guru Ustad Rashid Khan as a vocal supporter. She attended the Kolkata Sangeet Mela concert with her guru and Bidushi Aswini Vide Despande in 2012. She got 1st prize from BHARATIYA SANSKRITI UTSAV (All India Classical Music Competition), and gave a solo performance at RABINDRA BHAWAN, Burdwan in 2012 and got 1st prize in Bhajan. She also got 1st prize Yuva Utsav state level compition 2014.In 2015 she got Dr.Bani Gupta Memorial Award from ROTARY CLUB OF CALCUTTA. In the same year she also got 1st prize from AKHIL BHARTIYA SANSKRUTIK SANGH, PUNE, MAHARASHTRA. Nowshe also workswith Honorable Music Director Mr.Debojyoti Mishra in Television. Other abilities: Koyel is also able in Rabindrasangeet,Nazrulgeeti,Semi-Classical songs and she attended many prestigious programs in Kolkata. She also performed Rabindrasangeet and Nazrulgeeti at BANGLA ACADEMY, Nandan.Now,she is a music teacher at KUJAN SANGEET SHIKHSHAKENDRA,Established by her mother Smt.Kanta Bhattacharya and she also take teacher’s training from SHAKHRI BEGUM MEMORIAL TRUST, Established by her guru Ustad Rashid Khan..
