Padmabhushan Uma Sharma
Smt. Uma Sharma is most known for reviving the old classical dance form of Natwari Nritya. From the age of 14, Uma Sharma was invited every year by Pandit Nehru to perform at his irthday parties. She was also shown, at Rashtrapati Bhavan to Royal visitors like Queen Elizabeth, the Shah & Shah, Bano of Iran, etc. She was a standby role in a dance drama ‘Shakuntala’ year after year during Dussehera. In her 20’s the singing, acting chrysalis emerged in to its full glory as India’s ace Kathak Dancer Uma Sharma. Uma's forte is translating poets Kalidas, Vidyapati, Ghallib, Tagore, lqbal, Faiz, Bachan in to dance. Her involvement is too deep to leave either time or space for anything else in her heart.
She also runs the Bharatiya Sangeet Sadan, founded by her father in 1946 in New Delhi.
