Sadanand Biswas

Kathak dancer, Pakhawaj artist, Rabindra Nritya artist

Sadanand Biswas
   Biography
Sadanand born in the industrial town of Durgapur in West Bengal. His early interest in performing arts impressed  parents Mrs Anita Devi Biswas and Shri Birendra Kumar Biswas who sent him to  Shri Nirmal Nag  in 1988 for formal training in  Kathak dance.  The creative dance style of ‘Rabindra Nath Tagore’ known as Rabindra Nritya  was learnt from Shri Kartik Saha. The success of early performances at the local functions inspired him to explore the dance forms further under the able guidance of his able gurus. For advance training he Joined  the National Institute of Kathak Dance at New Delhi in the year 1998 to be  trained under the tutelage of the world renowned Pandit Rajendra Kumar Gangani of the Jaipur Gharana.  This training was supported by a scholarship from Kathak Kendra, Delhi from 1998 to 1999, followed by  another scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Government of India.  Degrees of  Sangeet Visharad from Nikhil Bharat Sangeet Samiti, Kolkata  and Nritya Visharad from Prayag  Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad were obtained in  1997 and 2002 respectively.

He took training at Kathak Kendra from 1998-2003 in vocal classical from Irin Roychoudhury, pakhawaj from Pandit Ram Kishore Das, yoga from Nisha Mahajan and Shankar Apte. The dance training inculcated in him a sense of  blending the natural abhinay with paran, kavitt, thumri, pad and gatnikas to  improvise  better performances.  The search for excellence and aesthetics of the Kathak dance form took him to various veterans like 'Padmashree Shovana Narayan', 'Padmashree Uma
Sharma', Pandit Rajendra Kumar Gangani. Extensively researched, choreographed dance ballets were produced and presented  on the works of Ravindra Nath Tagore ,Kazi Nazrul Islam, Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, Mahadevi Verma, Krishna  Basu, Kavi Jaidev and Jallaluddin Rumi. Public awareness about environmental issues like 'Climate Change  through the medium of dance' is his current passion.  A dance ballet entitled 'Vasundhara' was presented at the India Habitat Center in June 2008 for the benefit of general public. In September 2008, the performance was  shown to  the students of the Indira Gandhi National Open University by live telecast throughout India.
