Rafat Khan was born, brought up and educated in Bombay. He was recognized as a child prodigy and gave his first performance at the age of twelve. This talented young artist has
won popularity steadily. In his music appearances he has proved a great perception,
chastity and involvement in sitar playing. The confidence, stage presence,
presentations, perfect techniques and concentration are the major qualities in
Rafat Khan’s performances, which no doubt indicates his great musical heritage
and his association with stalwart gurus like Pandit Arvind Parikh and Ustad Vilayat Khan Saheb. Rafat Khan also has the
benefit of musical grooming under his maternal
uncle Ustad Aslam Khan, the veteran exponent of Khurja, Atrauli and Agra
gharana.
Rafat Khan is an excellent teacher too and is actively
associated with Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai, as a senior Sitar teacher. Many
of his students have become stage artists today. Ustad Rafat Khan has a unique
style of giving a concert – cum – demonstration and he has given many programs
like this in India & abroad also. He also performed and organized many
fusion concerts.
At present Ustad Rafat Khan is the joint-secretary of Dilrang
Academy of Music and Fine Arts Mumbai, which is one of the most popular and
dedicated music organizer of Mumbai (India).
