- Vidushi Sindhu Kiran ji is a multifaceted talent in the field of Indian Classical dance. She is an exponent of Odissi and Mohiniyattam forms of dance, an accomplished Veena player and a serious practitioner of Yoga and Kalaripayattu.
Young Sindhu ji was inspired by Doordarshan's “Baje Sargam” when she saw Protima ji Bedi performing Odissi and hence started her journey from her home town to Nrityagram in rural Bangalore at the age of 16.
Following her initiation into Odissi here by none other than Protima ji Bedi herself, Sindhu ji was fortunate to be accepted as a disciple by the legendary guru Padma Vibhushan Pandit Kelucharan ji Mahapatra with whom she studied extensively. Her five years at Nriyagram honed her into a fine artist who refined further and took lessons and was trained under Guru Sri Ratikanth ji Mohapatra, and Guru Sri Ramani Ranjan ji Jenna for which she went to Bhuvaneshwar.
Sindhu ji's thirst for dance led her to the greatest guru of Mohiniyattam and she trained under Guru Smt Kalamandalam Kalyanakutti Amma ji who is considered the Mother of this beautiful elegant dance form from Kerala and then under Guru Smitha Rajan ji and Guru Smt Bharthi ji Shivaji.
In her seek for perfection in her presentation and to connect with the audience, Sindhu ji specialised in “Abhinaya” the soul of performance and trained under Guru Smt Kalanidhi ji Narayan also.
Sidhu ji started performing from her Nrityagrama days and has an innumerable number of highly well-received performances to her credit.She has extensively toured all across India and across seas in Europe and Southeast Asia. In 2006, she started the “Rudra Nrityayogashala” with the vision of promoting and teaching the beautiful dance form Odissi and since then has been relentlessly working towards it.
