Rupesh, a Lecturer in (vocal) at Kala Academy, Goa hails from the scenic village of Keri (Sattari) in Goa. He has had his initial training in music at Bal Bhavan Keri, Sattari under the guidance of Shri. Anand Mhaskar and Shri. Prakash Korgaonkar. At the very young age he received guidance on various subject and appreciation for versatile talent from eminent artistes, scholars, activitsis like Smt Asha Bhosale Smt.Prafulla Dahanukar, Vidushi Shobha Gurtu, Shri Narayan Athavle, Shri Yadunath Thatte, Shri Shashikant Narvekar, Shri Nirmalkumar Padkule etc. which help him to march forth in his career.
After securing First class in S.S.C. examination he joined Goa College of Music at Panaji, Goa and secured Bachelor of Music degree in Hindustani Classical Music (Vocal) with first class , under the able guidance of Pt. Sudhakar Karandikar, Dr. Hanumant V. Burli and Prof. Kamlakar Naik.
He has done M. Music (Vocal) with Distinction from Lalit Kala Kendra, University of Pune under the guidance of Pt. Vijay V. Bakshi. Rupesh has taken inspiration in the field of Kirtan from well known Kirtankar, Dattadas Ghagbuwa and has also performed number of Kirtans across Goa and Maharashtra.
In the young generation of Hindustani Classical Musicians from Goa, Rupesh Gawas has his own niche! Gifted with a sweet and resonant voice, Rupesh is well versed in Indian Art Music. One can enjoy his classical rendering which is full with thorough knowledge of Raags, variety of forms such as Khayal, Tarana, Chaturang etc. He also specializes in traditional repertoire of Marathi and Goan Bhajans.
