The ballet opens with the ananda tandav being perfomed by Sati & Shiva at kailash parvat with Shiva's Ganas and Sakhis of Sati enjoying the celestial celebration. At this point, Daksha Prajapati - father of Sati visits his daughter but due to the merry moment at Kailash he leaves feeling very insulted & neglected as he is not acknowledged by Shiva.

As a reaction to his hurt ego, Daksha Prajapati plans to hold the largest yagna of the trilok where he invites all esteemed guests but Shiva. On learning of this event, Sati insists that Shiva & she must attend as it is after all a family event and they are always welcome to visit her father. Shiva refuses and encourages Sati to go ahead and participate at the grand function. Not very happy about visiting alone, Sati leaves Kailash with Nandi and the Gana's.
On arriving Daksha Prajapati's yagna, Sati realises that her father had deliberately not invited Shiva to the ceremony and is insulted in front of the sabha without any care. Enraged at her husband's insult, Sati curses Daksha saying, Shiva will avenge the insult he has done to her and her husband. Saying so she asks forgiveness from Shiva for not obeying him and burns herself through her yogic powers.

Shiva gets to know about the death and insult to Sati through his Ganas and starts performing Raudra Tandava and pulls a lock of hair and throws to the ground from which the ferocious VEERABHADRA takes birth.

Shiva instructs Veerabhadra to destroy the yagna and kill Daksha which Veerabhadra does with all his might.  The Devatas run to Shiva as Verrabhadra’s anger does not subside even after destroying the yajna and punishing all who participated in it and pray him to calm down Veerabhadra and cool down. Shiva heeds and calms himself down and extracts powers of Veerabhadra. And also restores all the lives that were killed including Daksha, with a head of Goat as his head was burned in the Yajna by Veerabhadra.

The ballet ends with Shiva returning to his calmer avataar.
