   About Ragini Chakravarty View profile

Ragini Chakravarty has been conferred with the Maharashtra state level Kala-Shree Puraskar in a dignified ceremony held on Thursday, the 21st of August, 2014 in Sangli, Western Maharashtra. The award was formally presented to Ragini by the Chief Guest of the ceremony, Dr. Ved Prakash Mishra, Chairman of Medical Council of India.

RAGINI CHAKRAVARTY is a new generation Hindustani Classical Vocalist of the Kirana Gharana - a prominent disciple of Padmabhushan Dr. Prabha Atre. Gifted with a mellifluous voice and enriched with a refreshingly feminine style of singing, Ragini has adapted perfectly to the Kirana gayaki which puts emphasis on melody and sweet intonation of words. Her singing takes one slowly and steadily into the beautiful inner world of a particular raga with elaborate meditative alaap and sargams and then climaxing with intricate taans and fast compositions.

Ragini has been doing stage performances all over India eliciting tremendous response from the rasikas. She has also been doing concerts on Doordarshan and All India Radio in different forms of vocal music. Thanks to the adaptability of her voice Ragini has excelled in the lighter forms of vocal music too including modern songs and jingles.

Trained in the Gurukul tradition, Ragini always finds time to carry on the tradition by imparting music lessons to the young talented disciples. She is the Director of Shrutinaad  Music Classes, Mumbai. Shrutinaad a musical organization based in Assam that has been organizing various programs of workshops, cultural shows and music competitions since 2003. Shrutinaad, aims at promoting music and culture of Assam on a larger scale, Shrutinaad has been focusing on preservation and propagation of the immortal songs (over 200) of Bauli Kavi Kamalananda Bhattacharyya (1894-1951), a poet-composer-author-playwright-actor-freedom fighter of Assam, and the musical contribution of Sangeet Jyoti Bibekananda Bhattacharyya (1930-2007), renowned tabla player and composer-music director-vocalist of the North East. Since 2008 Shrutinaad has been organizing annual classical music show (May 28) ‘Prashanti’ in fond memory of Sangeet Jyoti Bibekananda Bhattacharyya and an All Assam Kamalananda Songs Competition annually (June 2) since 2009 in Guwahati. They have collaborated in concerts organized by musical agencies in Mumbai too. Due to growing demand for the songs we have also been holding musical workshops as and when possible since 2006. Shrutinaad had released two audio albums of selected Kamalananda songs—in 2003 and in 2010 respectively—with no producers or sponsors or marketers.
