   Biography
Not only is Dr. Darekar a master of raga music but he sings beautifully in lighter styles, too, like Thumrí, Dadra, Tappa, Gazal, Natyasangít, Bhavgit, and Bhajan. He has got an art of amalgamation of  the technical intricacies of various gharánas without violating the aesthetics of any one of these styles. Dr Mohankumar Darekar has performed at many places abroad including Dubai, Muscat, and Abudhabi. He was doing broadcasing and telecasting of classical music in national music programmes. He is a regular performer  in national media(A.I.R. &Doordarshan). He performed in Gharana baithak - Delhi, also he performed in 'Abhisheki Smruti Samaroha' at Aurangabad, Manipal,  Nashik, Panaji, Vasco,  Goa, Hyderabad.

Sangeetacharya Dr Mohankumar Darekar is one of today’s widely acclaimed performers, gifted with a powerful, well trained voice that traverses with ease over three octaves, while displaying perfect diction, purity in sur and a very good command over tala and laya allowing him to create complex and rhythmically very attractive tana and sargam combinations. Dr. Mohankumar Darekar took music lessons from Pt. Jitendra  Abhisheki who kindly allowed Dr. Darekar to stay with him for over 15 years, to have an impact of music on him. Through his performance the listener gets carried away on the wings of a dynamic music, displaying newer vistas of the rich beauty of Indian classical music. Not only is Dr. Darekar a master of raga music but he sings beautifully in lighter styles, too, like Thumrí, Dadra, Tappa, Gazal, Natyasangít, Bhavgit, and Bhajan. He has got an art of amalgamation of  the technical intricacies of various gharánas without violating the aesthetics of any one of these styles. 

Dr. Mohankumar Darekar is a teacher who, having gone through a very efficient training himself, knows the difficulties of a student and has the capability to meet his students on their levels – beginners as well as advanced students. For this purpose he founded Swaranjali Pune in 2003, an institution for the enhancement of the Hindustani Classical Music. Dr. Mohankumar Darekar grew up, imbibing music right from his childhood. 

Not just a vocalist, Dr. Mohankumar is a writer too. He has penned a book 'Maze Jeevan Gane' with the support of Dr.Kashalkar.
