Dr Araty Shetty, daughter of Smt. Jayalakshmi Alva had her early days in Mumbai doing her Education and completing B.Sc. M.Ed. P.hd(SNDT University. Mumbai.) She has been trained by Smt Jayalakshimi Alva for Arrangetram and has represented Mangalore University in 1981 Youth Festival.
In the field of Bharathanatyam Araty is very active as Director Sridevi Nrithya Kendra Mangalore. Sri Devi Nrithya Kendra is cosmopolitan institution devoted to the development of fine arts, especially Bharathanatyam in its purest form and style and for propagating it to the ever increasing art enthusiasts. The founder Directors of this Kendra are Smt. Jayalakshmi Alva and Late Sri. Ramakrishna Alva. Taking its birth in Bombay about 45 years ago, Sridevi Nrithya Kendra was known as Chitrambalam Dance Centre. transition from Chitrambalam Dance Centre to the present day Sridevi Nrithya Kendra and journey from Bombay to Mangalore is a memorable one.
The very famous dancers like Sonal Mansingh, Waheedha Rehaman , Shreelekha Mehta, Aditi Mehta, Maya Kulkarni, Prabhavathi Shastri and so many others became the students of this centre which earned a good name at Bombay. The ardent desire of Mr. Alva to start a model cultural institution similar to Kalakshetra of Madras made him to return to his native place Mangalore and along with his wife Smt. Jayalakshmi Alva started Sridevi Nritya Kendra at Mangalore in 1974
Araty Shetty was also involved as Staff Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Mangalore since 1986, Member Karnataka Sangeetha Nrithya Akademi Bangalore -2001-2003, Chairman Board of Studies & Examination in Bharatanatyam of the Mangalore University for 2002-2006. She has been organising Nrityotsava since 1993.
