When he plays tabla you may get the feel of legendary Zakir Hussain and when he moves his fingers on the chords of sitar you are going to be spell-bound. Equally efficient in these two instruments Ankit is also a master of drum, synthesizer, congo, bongo, dugdugi and so on. In fact, there is no commonly known instrument which he cannot play.
However, despite the wide range, he wants to become a great tabla player like Ustad Zakir Hussain. "I play all instruments which are used in an orchestra but I like tabla the most. I want to become a great tabla player and Zakir Hussainji is my idol," says this student of class XII from DAV school in Sector 14. He has recently appeared in board examinations and is now preparing for a career as a chartered accountant.
Son of Rajesh Sapra, a businessman and Poonam Sapra a teacher, Ankit is a good-looking guy who loves outings and always visits hill stations during holidays. He loves driving and listening to instrumental music, especially tabla. He is a food lover too and craves for Chinese fare on his platter. In his leisure time he watches videos of Zakir Hussain which inspire him.
A perfect student
Ankit is a perfect student and he never compromise with his studies and music class. In school he always got more than 90 per cent marks and in music he never missed a single class since starting out 12 years ago. Ankit's music guru Rakesh Sharma says, " He is a very dedicated student. He was my first student and in the 12 years of his journey with music he has set an example not only with his achievements but also in maintaining the guru-shishya parmapara."
Journey in music
Ankit began taking tabla lessons at the age of six. He has completed his graduation (Prabhakar) in tabla from Prayag Sangeet Samiti. In his school days he was the only student who played tabla and drums both at school assembly. On his romance with sitar he says, "Playing sitar is my passion and I have done four years' senior diploma in sitar. The various other instruments I play give me strength and innovation."
An achiever
Ankit is an excellent achiever. He has composed and recorded a music album based on Child Labour which was sold in London in the year 2008.For the past 3 years he has been giving public performances as a solo artist in Delhi- NCR. He has also been awarded as the Best Musician by Bharat Vikas Parishad, Faridabad and as the Best Tabla Player by the CM of Haryana, Bhupinder Singh Hooda in 2006. For academic performance he won the scholar badge and the best speaker award in his school.
Desire to teach under privileged kids
Ankit is concerned about those kids who are poor and want to learn music. He has a great desire to teach them and for that he is planning to start his mission soon.
