Dr. Surabhi Shukla is a renowned Kathak exponent of the Lucknow Gharana, an accomplished choreographer, scholar, and dedicated Guru of Indian classical dance. Blending artistic excellence with academic depth, she holds a Ph.D. in Kathak from Bhatkhande Music Institute.
Her journey in Kathak was recognized at an early age when she was awarded the prestigious scholarship by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi. This national recognition in her formative years strengthened her commitment to pursue Kathak with seriousness, discipline, and devotion.
A recipient of the esteemed award from the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi, Dr. Shukla has made remarkable contributions to Kathak through performance, choreography, research, and teaching. Her presentations are admired for their refined abhinaya, intricate tatkaar, graceful chakkars, aesthetic body movements, and powerful command over rhythm.
She has performed extensively across India and internationally, including the UK, USA, Fiji, Mauritius, and other countries, representing Indian classical dance on prestigious cultural platforms and programs organized through the High Commission of India.
Dr. Surabhi Shukla has choreographed and directed several acclaimed thematic productions and dance ballets such as Naav Durga and Durga Stuti, thoughtfully blending traditional grammar with aesthetic stage presentation and spiritual depth.
As Founder and Director of Sanskriti The Culture Dance Academy, she has trained and mentored numerous disciples, contributing significantly to the preservation and propagation of the Kathak tradition.
In addition to her distinguished stage career, she is also an accomplished author. Her scholarly book, “Kathak Ke Lucknow Gharane Ke Vikas mein Guru Vikram Singh ka Yogdaan" is an important academic contribution to Kathak literature and documentation.
