Rupan Samanta is an acclaimed North Indian classical vocalist of the younger generation, known for her deep, resonant voice and mesmerizing performances. Critics and fans alike are captivated by the vitality and sensuousness of her singing, particularly her rich lower-range tonality, which adds a hypnotic appeal to her renditions.

For over a decade, Rupan has enthralled audiences with her diverse Banaras Gharana repertoire, covering a wide range of classical and semi-classical genres, including:

  • Tappa, Thumri, Chaiti, Kajri, Jhoola, and Dadra – Lighter, expressive forms full of lyrical beauty

Early Training & Musical Lineage

Rupan’s musical journey began at the tender age of four under the guidance of her father, Birendra Nath Sarkar, who introduced her to the foundations of classical music. Her passion and dedication led her to receive advanced training in her twenties from the legendary Padma Vibhushan Smt. Girija Devi, one of the greatest exponents of the Banaras Gharana.

Learning in the intensive Guru-Shishya Parampara (Master-Apprentice tradition), she imbibed the intricate nuances, emotive depth, and stylistic elegance that define the Banaras Gharana. The influence of her revered guru is unmistakably evident in her presentations, where she seamlessly blends technical precision with heartfelt expression.
