   Biography

Manjiri Joshi Marathe is a talented and accomplished tabla artist from Mumbai known for her precision, rhythm, and dedication to Indian classical music. She began her tabla journey at a young age under the guidance of the late Shri Vasant Bapat of Dombivli, who recognized her talent early on. Continuing her advanced studies, she now trains under Shri Vinayak Naik, a senior disciple of the renowned tabla maestro, the late Pt. Bhai Gaitonde. Through this rigorous training, Manjiri has honed her skills in both solo and accompaniment performances, contributing her music across numerous esteemed platforms.

Manjiri holds a ‘Tabla Visharad’ (Bachelor's in Music) from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Mumbai. Besides performing, she has been associated with All India Radio, Mumbai, as a Broadcast Assistant, where her expertise enriched various broadcasts. She is also a regular examiner for Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, sharing her expertise with budding musicians.

In 2012, she founded SwaraNaad Tabla Classes, where she imparts her knowledge to students online and offline. This academy operates under the guidance of Shri Vinayak Naik, Director of the Hindustani Sangeet Academy, ensuring a structured and classical approach to tabla education. Alongside her musical career, Manjiri is also a graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Economics, showcasing her commitment to both academic and musical excellence. Her journey reflects her dedication to preserving and promoting the art of tabla through teaching, performing, and examination.

   Career

Manjiri Marathe has crafted a distinguished career as a tabla artist, performer, and educator in Indian classical music. Starting her training under the late Shri Vasant Bapat in Dombivli, she quickly progressed to advanced guidance from Shri Vinayak Naik, a prominent tabla artist in Mumbai and senior disciple of the late Pt. Bhai Gaitonde. This mentorship allowed Manjiri to refine her technique and versatility in tabla, both as a soloist and as an accompanist, performing at various prestigious venues and events.

In addition to her performances, Manjiri’s professional journey includes a role as a Broadcast Assistant with All India Radio in Mumbai, where she gained valuable experience in the broadcasting of Indian classical music. Her expertise in tabla has also led her to serve as an examiner for the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal in Mumbai, a role through which she mentors and evaluates young tabla talents.

Committed to teaching, Manjiri established SwaraNaad Tabla Classes in 2012, offering both online and offline lessons to students of all ages and levels. Supported by her mentor, Shri Vinayak Naik, who directs the Hindustani Sangeet Academy, Manjiri’s classes have become known for their structured and disciplined approach to tabla. Her career as an educator allows her to pass on the classical tabla tradition to future generations, fulfilling her vision of preserving and expanding the reach of this art form.

Holding a ‘Tabla Visharad’ (B.A. in Music) and a B.A. in Economics, Manjiri’s career exemplifies a dedication to balancing her academic pursuits with a lifelong commitment to Indian classical music.
