Gondhal is initially believed to have been performed in the 'Swargalok' - heavens by Gods Bramha, Vishnu and Mahadev.
Subsequently Saint Tukaram performed 'Gondhal' for Aai Bhavani on a river bank on the Bhandara hill. He used his body as the instrument for Gondhal - heart beats like the Mridangam.
Then, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj organised the third 'Gondhal' for Aai Bhavani, followed by 'Gondhal' organized by the 5 Pandavas.
In modern times, the fifth 'Gondhal' is organized by us - devotees of Gods and Goddesses on the auspicious occasions of marriage, thread ceremony - Munja, house warming. This ' Gondhal' is performed with 7 almonds, walnuts, sugarcane, 5 types of fruits, flowers for Goddess Jagadamba.
