Since the age of 12 years, Shashi has been training under renowned gurus from across India. Since both, her father and her husband had jobs that took her to different parts of the country it became a quest for Shashi to adapt and continue learning the art form come what may. In Baroda she was blessed to be introduced to Bharatanatyam by Guru Smt Ambika Shridhar and Guru Smt Minal Dharkar. Then she continued under the tutelage of Guru Shri Kubernath Tanjorkar.
Having moved to the princely state of Mysore after marriage Shashi considers herself extremely fortunate to receive intensive training under Guru Smt Dr Vasundhara Doraswamy and continues to do so till date.
During a brief stay of 2 years in Kolkatta she got introduced to Guru Smt. Thankamani Kutty of Kerala Kalamandalam and her style.
Shashi then had to move to Mumbai and continued to journey on and learn and enhance her knowledge of theory and practice of Bharatanatyam. Shashi was elated to get an opportunity to do her M.F.A in Bharatanatyam in 2011-2013 (Master of Fine Arts) from Bharata College of Fine arts & Research Centre in Mumbai headed by SNA Awardee Guru Dr Sandhya Purecha. The college is affiliated to Kavikulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University, Ramtek- NAGPUR and Shashi with dedicated work and perseverance secured the 1st Rank (Gold Medal).As she moved from place to place in continued pursuance of her dance studies Shashi also completed her M.A. Economics from Mysore University and secured the 3rd Rank.
Having finally settled down in Mumbai to start her dream Institute LIOTA- Laavanya Institute of Traditional Arts in 2002, she has instructed students in Folk Dances of Gujarat and Rajasthan and Bharatanatyam, She designed thematic dances for competitions at schools and colleges level, ceremonies and festivals for the last 2 decades. She has also imparted training to the underprivileged girls under the aegis of Ngo’s which helped the young girls and women build self-esteem and confidence. Shashi has always been a part of the dance troupes in the respected institutes she learnt from which has given her a wider experience in performance and choreography. She has had the privilege of invitation to perform at various renowned festivals in India and abroad.
