Poorva Kavathekar

Poorva Kavathekar is a Kathak dancer from Maharashtra. Her hometown is Sangli and work is spread across Pune and Sangli region. She has taken her initial training from Ms. Swati Mule at Sangli for three years. Now she is learning Kathak from eminent kathak artist Ms. Astha Godbole-Karlekar following the Guru-Shishya parampara. Ms. Astha karlekar is disciple of Smt.Savita Godbole who is disciple of Acharya Lachhu Maharaj ji.

She has also gave performances at Indore and Ujjain(Sinhastha 2015).She played a vital role of Rani Laxmi bai in the dance drama called “Naari Shakti” which was choreographed by Astha Karlekar. The shows of this dance drama were held at Parner and Kesari Wada Pune on the occasion of Ganeshotsav in 2019.

 Poorva has worked in the theatre field also.She has acted in many one act plays and dramas in Pune and sangli.She was selected as an anchor by Akashvani Pune for the show “Yuva Vani”.She has completed and earned a certificate for the voice culture program ”Vani” organized by Akashvani Pune. 

Currently she is working with Matoshree National School, Warje, Pune which is English Medium CBSE school teaching basics of Kathak to primary students. She is also helping her guru to run her dance academy named “Layashala Lalit Kala Foundation, Pune” Poorva takes the basic batches and keeps an eye on all the management, correspondence of the institute. She designs the curriculum for different batches according to the student’s age, experience and the exams they are appearing for. She is an active part of the managements committee of the music festivals arranged by their Institute. One National level music festival was arranged in Oct 2019 by them which was named as “Pandit Lachhu Maharaj Dance and Music Festival. This festival was supported by the South Central Zone Cultural Centre(SCZCC).She also performed in this festival. Poorva has total experience of 4 years of teaching kathak and choreographing performances.

• Khushki –One Act Play – Acted in the professional shows in the year 2019

• Navas-One Act Play – Won the prize at state level drama competition “Uttunga” at Mumbai in 

2015

• Gaay Meliy – Won the first prize in State level Drama Competetion”Rajya Natya Spardha” in 

2018 in Pune Regional Zone

• Tichi Pachavi – Received the certificate for acting in the State level Drama Competition ”Rajya 

Natya Spardha-2011” and the drama won second prize.

• Aghatit – Received the Best actress award for acting in the state level competition organized by 

Sakal group of Media at Kolhapur in 2011.
