Dhivya S Pillai, an aspiring artist is a graduate in Bharatanatyam, Carnatic (vocals), Psychology and Literature besides being a life member for The Indian Institute Of World Culture. Her keen passion towards Bharatanatyam started at a very young age. Dhivya was titled with Laasya Mohini in the year 2015. She was also awarded with National Nrithya Mani in the year 2016.
Her journey in Bharatanatyam started at the age of 5 under Guru Smt Hemalatha Prakash. Later she moved to Guru RLV Anand and Guru Smt Jayakamala Pandian (D/O Vazhavur Rajaratnam Pillai and Granddaughter of Vazhavur Rammaiah Pillai). She has also had the privilege to meet and interact with many senior most artists and choreographers which has influenced her outlook and approach towards Bharatanatyam.
Apart from holding a BA degree in Bharatanatyam, she also has other educational background in Bharatanatyam. She has passed Bharatanatyam Junior and Senior Grade Exam which is conducted by the Karnataka Educational Board with a first class and distinction respectively. She has also completed her Junior Grade Carnatic vocals from the same board with a distinction. She has also successfully finished her Junior grade exam from Bhangiya Sangeetha Parishad (West Bengal) and Madhyama from Ghandarva University (Mumbai).
Dhivya is also an able judge. She has judged for several intercollege classical dance festivals. She was also an examiner for Junior and Senior Bharatanatyam Dance Exam conducted by the Karnataka Educational Board.
Her first stage program was at the age of 7. She has won many state and national level competitions. She has many solo stage performances to her credit. She was also teaching bharatanatyam at the Shishukunj Vidyalaya (under Bharathiya Mahila Sangh) for the underprivileged without seeking for any monetary benefits. She has also finished her Yoga Instructor Course from S-VYASA.
Understanding the fact that all individuals and their perceptions are different, she has reached and conveyed the sahitya bhava to the laymen with her sophisticated abhinayam as a soloist. Critics have remarked her has “a dancer with confidence, vivacious movements and fluid expressions.” She defines dance as a medium to evoke one’s soul and a bridge between her soul and the supreme soul.
