Rajendra Doorkar

Rajendra Doorkar was born in music lover family. He was fortunate enough to understand his inclination towards Tabla. With the encouragement from his family he had an opportunity to learn from different Gharanas and gurus. This diverse training enabled Rajendra to imbibe subtleties of many Tabla gharanas. Also he developed skill, on his own of playing many other percussion instruments such as Ektaari, Bagal baccha, Hudke etc. He himself has prepared many of his instruments, which he plays in many of his live shows and recordings.

In all percussion instruments the playing technique involves extensive use of fingers and palms in various configurations to create a wide variety of sounds. Rajendra has mastered this art and technique. Rajendra has rhythmically contributing to this field for last twenty years and till date has contributed to many programs.

Rajendra Doorkar has got a vast exepriance as a Tabla player and percussionist - Sawai Gandharva is a world famous (3 days) music festival at Pune where a world famous artists from all over the country perform. For Rajendra it was a cherished moment when he accompanied Shehnai for consecutive two years at Sawai Gandharva. He has got a chance to perform Tabla and percussion -  Jugalbandi with renowned percussionist Sivamani. His own hit production'Nad Rang' is a collage of all rhythm instruments. He has a theater experience of both professional and amateur, as a Tabla player. He has also played in many T.V. programmes on many channels like 'Nakshtrache Dene' on Alpha Marathi, 'Shabdanche Sur Tarane' on Sahyadri and 'My Fair Melody' on ETV. Also he has more than 50 serials 'Surmai Sham', 'Mahashweta', 'Peshwai', 'Tu Tu Main Main', etc. to his credit.

Rajendra’s proficiency in tabla has made him the favorite accompanist for many musicians. Great music director Late Mr. Ram Kadam used to insist on having him as part of his film music. Noted music director Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar insists on having Rajendra Doorkar in his public performances and recordings as well. Also he has worked with well known music directors like Shriniwas Khale, Prabhakar Jog, Anand Modak, Yashwant Deo, Ashok Patki and singers like Asha Bhosale, Anup Jalota, Suresh Wadkar,Anuradha Paudwal and so many other singers and directors. Rajendra was an accompanying artist for around 1000 cassettes produced by famous cassette companies like HMV, Times, Music Today, T Series, Sagarika, Fountain, Samrat, Alurkar, Zee Music etc. Apart from this he has worked for 100 jingles.

Rajendra Doorkar is graded artist of AIR. 

Rajendra Doorkar has been glorified with a number of awards. Some of the awards are :

1. Very prestigious award of PMC Patthe Bapurao Puraskar for year 2001.

2. Pimpri Chinchwad’s Akhil Bharatiya Natya Parishad’s Sudhir Phadke Puraskar for theyear 2004.

3. A very prestigious Vijaya Gadagkar Puraskar by Swaranand Pratishthan in the year 2006 for his outstanding cultural contribution.
