Born in Mumbai, Leena Haldipur (nee Bailur) grew up in a musical family in Lucknow. Encouraged by her mother Smt Lalita Bailur, and by the then principal of Bhathkhande College of Music, Shri Mohan Kalyanpurji, Leena began performing at a very early age. She started her music career on All India Radio Lucknow in a program called 'Ubharte Swar' and continued on as an adult artist until her family moved to Bangalore. She won many light music competitions in Lucknow. After graduating from Bangalore University, Leena moved to Mumbai where she trained in Hindustani Classical and ghazal singing from Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan saheb and his brother Aftab Hussein Khan saheb. She continued to perform on All India Radio, in Mumbai. She also trained in light music with music director Jaidevji. In the Sur Singar Samsad playback singing competition that took place in Mumbai around this time, Leena was one of six finalists along with Hariharan, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Suresh Wadkar, Rani Verma, and Ashok Khosla.
She married Niranjan Haldipur soon afterwards and moved to Boston, U.S.A In the U.S Leena continued to give performances in different cities, and also performed on the Indian T.V channels ITV and BBN in New York and on an Indian TV channel in Boston.
She released an album of Meera bhajans 1995 in collaboration with famed music arranger and orchestrator Y.S Moolky where she composed the tunes for two of the eight tracks of the album. The music for the other six tracks were composed by Moolky da.
