Biography

Ruhi Masodkar, a Professional Kathak performer and Choreographer trained in Luckhnow as well as Jaipur Gharana is an highly accomplished Dancer with many years of performing Experience. A Versatile character, Ruhi is a perfect blend of Talent Grace and Beauty. Deeply devoted to Kathak, she started learning the dance form at the tender age of six from Guru Dr.Sadhana Naphade. She has completed her Alankaar in Kathak from Akhil Bhartiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Miraj under the able guidance of her guru.

In her pursuit to learn more and more, she is always eager to attend workshops from the masters in the field like Pt.Birju Maharaj, Pt. Rajendra Gangani, Smt. Shama Bhate, Ms. Manisha Sathe, Ms.Rekha Nadgauda, and Pandita Uma Dogra.

An elegant dancer, Ruhi has strong attribute in bhava (expressions) which leads her to compose innovative theme-based performances like: Hori, Pancha kosha, Pancha tatva, Navras, Krishnaleela etc.

Her desire to inculcate this ancient dance form to young aspirants, lead her to establish Nupur Kathak Kendra, a school of Kathak, in August 2009.

The main motto of NKK (Nupur Kathak Kendra) is to encourage youth to learn Kathak so as to preserve and promote this traditional art form.

• Performed in ‘Nupur-Nisha 2004’ in Gondia, Maharashtra

• Performed in ‘Kala Yatra’ organized by Goa Kala Academy, Goa.

• Performed on theme ‘Stree Shakti’ on Women’s Day Special Program organised by ‘Lokmat Sakhi Manch’.

• Performed at ‘Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande Smruti Sangeet Samaroha’.

• Performed at ‘Maharashtra Rajya Sanskrutik Puraskar 2007’, held at Nagpur.

• Performed at ‘25 years Celebration of Nirzar Kala Sansthan’- a three day festival.

• Perrformed at ‘Raindrops Festival’ in Nagpur which was organized in the memory of Legendary Maestro Pt. Durgalalji.

• Performed at the annual function of ‘Nupur Kathak Kendra’, as an Inspiration for her Disciples.

The main attraction in this performance was gatabhava presented on Holika Dahan.

• Ruhi was specially invited to perform at ‘Centenary Celebration of Somalwar Omalwar Education Society’ being an Ex- Student of Somalwar Academy.

• Performed at SCZCC, Nagpur.

Television/Radio/Drama:

• 'Nagpur Doordarshan Kendra’ telecast her Interview-Cum-Dance Performance on 20 June 2001 in its “Bal Atithi” programme.

• Acted in a Hindi Commercial Drama ‘Bhanvar’ in Nagpur, Amravati, Chandrapur, Gondia and Nasik.

• Ruhi also acted in Marathi Commercial Drama ‘Vichhaa Mazi Puri Kara’ in 2010 in Nagpur. She also made Choreography for the same.

• Recipient of ‘Scholarship’ from Centre for Cultural Resources & Training, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, New Delhi in Kathak Dance from 2003 to 2009.

• Received valuable guidance for Kathak from Pt. Birju Maharaj (2007, 2008, 2012), Pt. Rajendraji Gangani (2005, 2010), Smt. Shama Bhate, Smt. Uma Dogra (2010), Smt. Manisha Sathe (2006), Maalvika Mitra (2009), Jayashree Tambe (Indore, 2011) etc.

• Participated in festival ‘Unity in Diversity’ organized by CCRT, Govt of India, in Pune (2005) and Shillong (2008).

• Felicitated with 'Bal Gaurav' Award from Dr Shrikant Jichkar Memorial Trust in 2005 in recognition of her outstanding performance in Kathak Dance.

• Felicitated with ‘Meritorious Student Awardfrom 'Bal Jagat' Institute in the years 2004 and 2006 in recognition of her outstanding performance in Kathak Dance.
