Biography

Under the able guidance of Pt. Yashwant Bua Joshi and Pt. Mhos Kashalkar, he has risen to great heights as a vocalist of the traditional Gwalior and Jaipur gharanas. He has received guidance in respect of graharana, from Pt. Babanrao Haldankar and in respect of Bhatkhande Parampara from Pt. Yashwant Mahale. Along with the traditional instruction, Dr Ram Deshpande excelled academically too!

He got the post graduate degree in music from Nagpur University with gold medal. His doctoral thesis on ‘Mishra Ragas’ (Combination Ragas)was completed under the able guidance of Pt. V. R. Athaavle. Gandharva Mahavidyalaya has selected him as guide for Doctorate.

Dr.Ram Deshpande has a sonorous and a seasoned voice and a number of ornamentations like Gamak, Behlao, Meend, etc., at his command. Moreover, he has a good command of rhythm and a large variety of taans. He has a large repertoire of popular and rare raag combinations.

Career

Selected as Guide for Doctorate by Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. He has participated in many music seminars as a Thinker Musician. Dr Ram Deshpande was the music director for a Short film Gaanyogi also for a film on Pt. D. V. Paluskar. He also composed music for spiritual album Guruom for Red Ribbon Co. Mumbai. He is been approved as Guru for Hindustani classical vocal DVD by Super Audio Co. Chennai. He was the member of expert committee for the syllabus for Sangeet Visharad & Sangeet Alankar.

Dr Ram Deshpande performed in Radio Sangeet Sammelan at Guwahati. He performed in Pratahswar by Pancham Nishad Mumbai. He sang in Marathi Abhimaangeet a album by music director Kaushal Inamdar.

He has performed on several other prestigious musical platforms He has toured Holland, Germany for Concerts also, in Kenya, Muscat in 2010 and Dubai in 2011. Have done more than 15 shows in USA during 2011.

Dr. Ram Deshpande has a rich musical tradition . He is a renowned vocalist of new generation and an artist of commendable talent. Dr Ram Deshpande was initiated into classical music by Shri. Chepe, Shri. Panake and Pt. Prabhakar Deshkar. Dr.Ram Deshpande has a sonorous and a seasoned voice and a number of ornamentations like GAMAK, BEHLAO, MEEND, etc., at his command. Moreover, he has a good command of rhythm and a large variety of taans. He has a large repertoire of popular and rare raag combinations.

Awards & Achievements

Dr. Ram Deshpande has been a recipient of Government National Scholarship. He also received the Kesarbai Kerkar Scholarship by N.C.P.A, Mumbai. In 1991, the SRA Kolkata honoured him with the Best Vocalist Award, which is indeed a commendable achievement.
