Biography

Belonging to a family of strong attachment to spiritualism, Shib Narayan Banerjee was drawn towards Odissi dance when he happened upon the history of Odissi Dance at a very early age. Initially he learnt 'Kathak' classical dance. His interest in dance was nurtured at an early age by his parents and he took to the stage even as a child. With time, his aesthetics drew him to world 'Odissi' dance, his journey started as he crossed the threshold of Guru Giridhari Nayak’s classroom. For intensive training he joined SRJAN (Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra Nrityabasa) under the supervision of Smt. Sujata Mahapatra and Guru Sri Ratikanta Mahapatra. Not only did he have a holistic training in dance but he also trained intensely in playing Mandira (cymbals) and was fortunate enough to accompany his guru during several concerts. Presently he is undergoing training in Mardala Shib has traveled widely around the world with his Guru and also otherwise. He has performed both as a solo artist as well as being a part of different group productions and performances.

He has performed with his Gurus and individually in India and abroad as well. Apart from his concert tours, Shib Narayan is also a much sought-after teacher and often conducts workshops and classes at many dance teaching centers in globe. He has been working actively with the reputed performing arts company Surati in the U.S since 2009.

He also has a dance studio of his own called 'Shivang'.

Career

He has done numerous shows, many solo and in group in India and also abroad.

With the eminent late Guru Padmabibhushan Kelucharan Mahapatra,

late Padmashri Guru Ganghadhar Pradhan, Padmabibhushan Guru Smt Sonal Mangsing, Padmashri Guru Smt Madhavi Mudgal he has conducted many workshops in India as well as abroad some of them are :
