Nishigandha Wad Dewoolkar
   Biography
Nishigandha is a true Mumbaikar. Born and raised in Mumbai, she started acting at a very young age. Her talent was recognized by the dramatics fraternity at the tender age of 7 years, when she was awarded the best actress prize during an inter-school drama competition. Nishigandha has not looked back since.

Subsequently, she won the national talent scholarship for dramatics when she was 12 years old. Smt. Sulabha Deshpande became her Guru. With complete immersion into acting at the pure and nurturing environment of ‘Avishkar’ and ‘Chandrashala’, Nishigandha evolved as an actor with good core values and solid theatre skills. She is a naturally gifted, graceful dancer as well. Along with acting, Nishigandha acquired classical Kathak training from veteran Guru K. Rajkumar. Her mother, Dr. Vijaya Wad, who is an accomplished writer herself, has been instrumental in shaping the early years of her life with love and encouragement.

She debuted professionally through the medium of theatre, when she was still a school kid. Being a versatile artist, she performed in several plays and dance drama and won critical acclaim for her talents. She was handpicked by veteran actor Shree Atmaram Bhende for her first television serial in Marathi, ‘Avhaan’. That serial made history on television. Nishigandha won all awards for ‘most popular actress’ in the year 1989 and was given a special place in the hearts of Maharashtrians and this she regards as one of her biggest achievements.

She then went on into the realm of movies. She has had the honor and privilege of working with the finest actors and directors of Marathi cinema and Bollywood. Her extensive contribution as an actor in the lead role in more than 100 films is a living testimonial of her true passion.

She continues to grow as a person and as an actor. She travels all across Maharashtra to participate in cultural events and to meet the wonderful people of our country. She yearns for the troubled soul of women and has delivered more than 1000 lectures for women empowerment. She plans to keep on giving only her best.
