Due to the intense training sessions and uninterrupted riyaz for decades Viiaya Jadhav Gatlewar is a owner of a full, rich and expressive voice. Vijaya's long, intricate taans, demonstrating sharp accuracy in their notes, take spiral rather than conventional linear shapes; enlivened further by unique off-beat accentuations of rhythm. Her breath capacity and control are truly amazing, expressed in her specialty of 'behelawa'. Vijaya's vast repertoire of uncommon ragas includes jod-ragas such as Lalit-Gauri, Jaitashree, Pat-Bihag and Basanti-Kedar. Her tradition bound presentations are indeed a treat to the true connoisseur. Vijaya also excels in the lighter genres such as thumri, dadra, kajri and jhoola.
From this proud lineage springs Vijaya's awareness of whats is most subtle and beautiful in the pure classicism of the Jaipur idiom. Her presentations are brimming with the old world appeal, yet revealing a strong individual style. Vijaya's performances are rich feasts of classicism with freshness of novel forms and designs.
