   Biography
Due to the intense training sessions and uninterrupted riyaz for decades Viiaya Jadhav Gatlewar is a owner of a full, rich and expressive voice. Vijaya's long, intricate taans, demonstrating sharp accuracy in their notes, take spiral rather than conventional linear shapes; enlivened further by unique off-beat accentuations of rhythm. Her breath capacity and control are truly amazing, expressed in her specialty of 'behelawa'. Vijaya's vast repertoire of uncommon ragas includes jod-ragas such as Lalit-Gauri, Jaitashree, Pat-Bihag and Basanti-Kedar. Her tradition bound presentations are indeed a treat to the true connoisseur. Vijaya also excels in the lighter genres such as thumri, dadra, kajri and jhoola.

From this proud lineage springs Vijaya's awareness of whats is most subtle and beautiful in the pure classicism of the Jaipur idiom. Her presentations are brimming with the old world appeal, yet revealing a strong individual style. Vijaya's performances are rich feasts of classicism with freshness of novel forms and designs.

She has been training students at her residence in Mumbai since the year 1993. She is continuing the tradition of Jaiapur-Atrauli style by both performing and training students. Currently, she has been appointed a prestigious Guru position at the Gangubai Hangal Music Academy at Unakal, Hubli, Karntaka.

   Career
Vijaya Jadhav-Gatlewar is among the top exponents of the Jaipur-Atrauli style of singing in the present times.

Brimming with old world appeal, yet revealing a strong individual style, Vijaya offers rare richness of musical ideas clothed in novel forms and designs. Moulded in the finest classical tradition.Vijaya was initiated into taleem by her father, late Pt. Dinkar V. Jadhav, a veteran exponent of the Atrauli-Jaipur gharana, who also had training in the Gwalior and Agra disciplines. In 1978, Vijaya really came into her own when she became a pupil of late Pandit Nivruttibua Sarnaik her guru till his very last. She trained under him for more than two and a half decades has created the formidable artiste that she is today.

Today, she is a custodian of a great heritage, with an eminent status among the younger generation of musicians. She is acclaimed as much by discerning audiences at sammelans and mahotsavs in India, as abroad. She's performed at prestigious venues such as the Tansen Mahotsav (Gwalior) and Sawai Gandharva (Pune). Her tours of the US and Canada have been tremendously successful.

She can display the characteristics of Jaipur-Atrauli style such as ativilambit laya and complex taan patterns with her amazing breath control She has inherited the rich treasure of Jodragas from both her Gurus and she has mastery in presenting them. The Behelawa which she presents is truly rare and a treat to the connoisseur. Vijaya also excels in lighter forms of music such as Thumri,Dadra, Kajri and Jhoola.
   Awards & Achievements
An 'A' grade artist, she is regularly heard on AIR and television.

Vijaya was conferred with honours such as the Surashri Kesarbai Kerkar Scholarship by NCPA, Mumbai.
She was awarded the prestigious ITC-Sangeet Research Academy Fellowship.

1. Best singer - India Cultural League -1973
2. Best singer - India Cultural League - 1975 (2nd Prize)
3. Best singer - Maharashtra Mandal, Goregaon, Mumbai
4. Best singer - Lokhitwadi Mandal Nashik - 1978-79
5. The Best Singer Award from the Bharatiya Sanskriti Sansad  of Calcutta.
