Praveen Sheolikar

Violinist

Biography

Born in 1964 in a-family of reputed musicians, Shri Praveen Sheolikar started learning music at the tender age of 9 years under his grandfather late Rambhau Sheolikar of Raipur, himself an accomplished musician. A rigorous training then followed under the tutelage of his father Shri V.R. Sheolikar, a violinist of repute, and a regular broadcaster on the AIR, when young Praveen learnt the technique and finer aspects of violin playing,developing a style of his own.

Essentially, Shri Praveen Sheolikar plays violin with the more difficult of the styles, "Gayaki", which bears his own distinct touch. It has all the softness and sweetness one can look for. His treatment of ragas is always traditional and

disciplined, keeping their purity intact, with a total control on 'Sur' and 'Taal'

At present, Shri Praveen Sheolikar is associated with AIR, Bhopal.

This program is a mesmerizing Violin recital (Violin Vadan) by Praveen Sheolikar. Praveen plays violin with 'Gayaki' - the most difficult of styles, which bears its own distinct touch.

Awards & Achievements

As early as in 1979, Praveen received the coveted National Talent Search Scholarship. In 1995 he received the Gold Medal in AIR‘s All India Akashvani Music Competition. On academic front also, Shri Praveen has done remarkably well having secured a first class Master‘s Degree in Science.
